May be the same design, but not the same implementation. The JK's have better articulation than the TJ's had... just natural progression. No problem if you have an opinion, but expect others to have them too. If you dont want to just talk about it and get defensive instead, so be it... no worries to me. If you're havin a stressed out day or something, grab a beer and burn out the fire.
My stepdad has an old CJ sitting in his garage, stripped down and covered in years of hoarding garbage. Id LOVE to get my hands on it and build it into a wheeling monster, but if I had my pick, my opinion would be a newer JK unless it was going to get bashed to hell.

Mines a newer JK. I wheel it. Has more scratches on it than you can count and a dented bumper lol

Ive only hit some mild trails with mine so far. Got a run coming up on the 13th... but other than that I really dont get out too much due to finances yet. Once the big bill is paid off and I get get a lift and some bigger meat, ill be doing some serious modifications and wheeling. Really looking forward to it... but I dont think I would put it in a rollover situation any time in the near future, so hopefully scratches and dings are the biggest problems in my future (aside from parts and more parts). lol

The only difference is slightly longer control arms.

My biggest beef with the jk; as I've expressed in this thread before, and granted you're somewhat new to it and with such a high amount of posts I can't expect you've read through it all, is the departure from what the jeep (read: wrangler) was designed to be. A simplistic utilitarian vehicle. It is far from it, and from a purely anesthetic standpoint, it has changed quite dramatically and unfortunately looks ugly as sin.

Though I understand why; Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat/whatever company sadly gets their hands on it, has evolved it into a modern technologically absorbed ugly hunk of rolling crap to appeal to the masses, and thus make more of the almighty dollar, to continue the viscous cycle of capitalism.

What I can't wrap my mind around, is why a person would buy one to take offroad, considering a new one is what, $35,000? Which, chances are the average person is making payments on it still... When instead you could buy an older one, for a slight fraction of that cost, then all those payments you're making every month could easily be spent on parts, like say a lift, or tires, or axles that are actually worth bolting tires to.

I usually keep my opinions on the matter to myself, out of respect for others who've heard them here before. I've beat that horse to death a few times already.

Eh, I dont consider these discussions beating anything to death. I think we all have different views which is what makes us non-zombies.

I am the opposite though. I think that the aesthetic changes have been for the better. The TJ for example had that shitty half-fender where as now the JK has the full fender. Makes customizing it on the cheap really easy (like how I cut mine to allow for 35's should I get them without a lift). Headlights.. .no idea why they havent figured out how to have decent headlights in a wrangler. I do think that as technology increases in the auto industry, parts and vehicles become more complex... like the rubi e-disco. Its awesome I dont have to get out under the Jeep to disconnect and can do it from a button, but damn if it doesnt introduce a major cost if it breaks or fails because its touchy.
