Why not a Dana 44? Finding rears for YJs is easy!!!! I wouldn't bother with an axle that's only a little bit stronger than a 44.

But those fenders allow you to run larger tires, so they are a very good mod for your rig!!

That rubi in the picture has 34s on a 3.5 inch lift... That's 10 years old... And it'll go anywhere a 4+ inch long arm rig on 37s will go...

Especially here in VA. You can get 4.10 LSD 8.8s for $100 all day long around here. The little bit of added strength isn't the only upgrade either. Getting disk brakes is great and there's a lot more gearing options for an 8.8 than a 44. Cheap LSD isn't bad either.

No but it's a cheap swap if you can weld and if you can't, learn. MIG welding isn't hard and it's probably the most useful skill you can learn if you're into cars and it will save you thousands in the long run.

As for the c clips, Yukon makes a pretty cheap eliminator kit that comes with chromo shafts. You can build a really nice 8.8 setup for what you'll get an ok full size axle. If you're running ~37-42s a strong 8.8 will be just as beneficial other than not having more stability from a wider track width.

Well I'd rather spend $3-400 on a 44 that bolts right up, than on an 8.8.... When it's all said and done with the c clip eliminator and shafts and all the work you did to it to make it fit, it'll probably be just as expensive as a used 44 and a set of superior axles...

I dunno.... Never thought of an 8.8... It's a good 35 replacement for the TJ but for a YJ I just can't see it....

Less work on a YJ than a TJ. You could spend $600 on the kit and the axle around here and have a significantly stronger (8.8 is already decently stronger than a 44 anyway) with chromo shafts, no c clips, disk brakes, and a limited slip diff. Sure, it's an extra $200 but you're getting a lot more for that $200.

The green one was a Rio Grande edition.

Those jeeps took us on a few vacations. Put a lot of miles on them in a short time. Never had a problem with those 4 bangers. Automatics too.
