The best conditioned driver on the circuit can be in a poor handling car and lose the race or the worst conditioned driver on the circuit can be driving the best handling car and win the race. Makes it seem like its more about the car. .....

yup, an athlete is not some1 who can endure something or has skill, and athlete is someone who uses HIS SKILZ to out perform the other oponent; racing is all about the car,

think about hockey, do the sticks really matter, what about soccer there is nothing there but skill,

i also dont think that baseball players are athletes either, but i hate baseball!!!

and it probabaly takes more skill and stamina to rockcrawl in the heat w/a CJ than go aruond the track hundreds of times in heat,

anyways ur not an athlete is u drive cars, play golf, play monopoly, or play baseball

no i mean that there are different sticks that the players use, but it doesnt really have abearing on the game, it is ALL about skill not about the equipment like in nascar

I get what your saying. But I believe that having the best equipment available in the hands of an athlete that knows how to use it is a deadly (winning) combination.

well yes, but in hockey you can still use a wooden stick and still be amazing, or be really bad, use a composite and still suck

except for the fact that the cars are so closely monitored that they are as close to the same as can possibly be. leaving it all up to skill

Yup.

And on the baseball thing, I play baseball, football, golf, and hunt. I don't consider hunting a sport in the same sense of the word as baseball, football, etc. And I understand how people can argue about Nascar being a sport or not, but as for baseball and golf, they are both in my opinion "real" sports. While they may not require the physical stamina and endurance as football or hockey, most golfers ( I did say most) and most baseball players are in good physical condition, and if they are not in good condition it can affect their performance.

How about fishing, or hunting ? Doing those things makes me a "sportsman", at least that's what all the magazines tell me. If I'm fishing, and I'm a sportsman, then it's a sport, no ?

When I'm sitting in my beach chair, watching my fishing-pole tip for that tell-tale little wiggle or sudden bend, I'm an ath-uh-lete. I'm not even holding the fishing pole, it's in a sand stake.

If I'm competing against my buddy to see who catches the biggest fish, then it's a competition. IF it's a competition, than it can be considered a sport or game. It's physical, I'm actually doing it. When a fish bites I have to reel it in. Sport. Athlete. Me.
