NASCAR/Motorsports cont.

A continued discussion from a previously jacked thread. But feel free to discuss anything motorsports related.

Ya, I can't stand either of the Busch brothers...ESPECIALLY Kyle. And calling himself Rowdy?!?! It's a bit too "Days of Thunder" for me. I'd love to see Tony put him in the wall once. Maybe it'll knock some sense into him but I doubt it.

I'll tell you what though I wish I could be in Joey Logano's position. Getting his first win in NASCAR's top series at age 19, albeit from a rainout.

There are two other drivers, Newman and Montoya, that for some reason they just get under my skin. Can't stand to watch them in the driver interviews let alone on the track out front.

What do you think about the new car(COT)they're running? And the new double file restarts now?

I agree Newman comes off as whiney to me, but I like Montoya. I don't think he fits in with NASCAR though. He should have stayed in the open wheel circuit. NASCAR is a whole diffferent ballgame.

As for the COT, I wish they would go back to the car of yesteryear where they raced it on Sunday and you could buy it on Monday. More competition, no restrictors, if you built a better car, you had a better chance of winning. But that's jusy my opinion, I could be wrong.

Ya, I like the look of the COT but I don't like it's performance. They should have kept the original car and just added the aero-package to it.

The first couple of post race driver interviews I saw with Montoya, he seemed to have that "I'm better than everyone else so get out of my way" attitude. That was when I decided I didn't like him. Maybe he had a couple of bad interviews or wasn't himself but that's all it took for me.

1st impressions do count. I think he came into this with the attitude that just because he won Indy and raced F-1 this was going to be a piece of cake. He's made a lot of mistakes and I think it has given him some humility. But you're right he is still a bit of a whiner.

I looked it over. Nice. You know I didn't realize Dick Berggren had a PhD. And I saw your name in there B.L.

Either of you watch IRL? I've started to get into it a bit. I've watched a couple of races this season but I keep forgetting about it. I need to set the digibox to "record all." I haven't picked my favorite driver yet but I'm leaning towards Patrick.

I watch the IRL when I can, I tried hard to get the show owner to get Danica to appear at our last show, but the price was to high and we couldn't get any sponsors to foot the bill. In the IRL I like Tony Kanaan.

NASCAR: Mark Martin
F-I : anyone not driving a Ferrari
AMA: Matt Maladin
Grand Am: Bill Auberlin (favorite driver all around)

Sometimes sponsors just need a good backhand to get the ball rolling.

When I was stationed at McConnell in Kansas I got to do security at Kansas Speedway for a weekend. I got to watch the ARCA and Craftsman Truck series qualifying and races as well as the IRL qualifying. All from the camera stand inside turn 3. My friend got to check the drivers ID to get inside the track. The first day I was in the parking lot directing traffic to all the drivers as they came in to get passes.

From what I've seen, Franchiti is a good driver. Patrick seems to be on a good run. She's had quite a few top 5 finishes this season.

I just set the digibox to record the IRL race.

I think I'm starting to get there. I've noticed that I don't get as upset as I used to if I miss a race.

Like you NASCAR is not exactly at the top of my list. I used to think that all they needed to do was hook a bungee cord to the door and steering wheel so that a constant left was achieved. But I do have to respect the fact that they are traveling at 200 mph with less than inches between them. That does take a certain amount of skill and nerve, plus it's fun to watch them crash without injury. Don't take that wrong but wouldn't it be really boring to just watch them go round and round.

no I understand, I hold respect for them, but seeing the same cars with the same drivers just isn't enjoyable for me
watch a LeMans race and there are Prototypes and GT2 cars flying past, Corvettes, Mazda RX-8's running right next to Audi R10's and Peugoet prototypes
Its not only the different types of vehicles, its the street tracks, and all the different drivers that win

I understand, I'm a corner captain. I work any race that hits a road course. Mainly Road Atlanta. Believe me, the week of the Petit starts at 5am on Tuesday and I put in anywhere from 14 to 18 hours a day through Saturday night at midnight and I wouldn't miss it for the world. That's what I do on my vacation.

Ya, there are going to be quite a few tight cars till they get them dialed in. I see a few more cautions in the next 20 laps.
