Need a lil help with tahoe trailer wiring

I'm trying to wire my wifes Tahoe for a trailer so I can use it as a tow vehicle for the ol Jeep. Problem is the last owner has already had it rigged and had 5 different plugs wired... literally, but NONE of them worked. I bought a plug and play plug from the parts store and ripped out everything the guy had wired, then re-wired the few wires that were disconnected. Plugged the harness in and hooked up the trailer. I have brake and turn signals but when I push on the brakes and turn on the turn signal they both flash. It does the same thing when I turn on the headlights without the brakes pressed. When I have the headlights on and push the brake all the trailer lights go out. All the lights on the Tahoe itself work find. Any help here? Thanks!!!!

If the previous owner has cut into the wiring harness and altered it in anyway then your going to need to use a test light to isolate each wire one at a time to correct your problem, its not hard to do. The former owner should have just bought a plug-in wiring harness for trailer lights and you wouldn't be having this problem.
