Need help with batt draw,Mustang

So yes its my 92 Mustang, not a Jeep so bear with me pls. My batt goes dead after a week or so,this morning I had a dead batt with my new batt.My battery is in the hatch & the positive cable goes from there to a junction in the engine bay.My question is can I do a key off draw where I would remove that battery cable & place my test light or meter between the cable & the junction point in the bay.Although I might be doing it wrong & should be on the neg cable.???
