need Microsoft Excel Help

alright I am trying to do a project on investments for a class
I am tracking numbers
and when I try to enter a negative number, it automatically "sums" it up with other numbers in the row.

So I am trying to write -0.94
when I press enter it automatically switches it to: SUM =-0.94 (and does the math with the numbers on the row)
I just want to write a negative number, help please?

Hey RB...

Highlight the whole column, right click and go to "format". A window will open up and you can set the value of the "numbers". You can change it to add or subtract. You can change decimals. And you can change how the sums are displayed.

Now, it's been about 4 years since I played with Excel, but I do remember that you have to change the default when you're working with stuff like this.

Hope this helps a little.

There is a fx button to the left of where you are typing the number, click this and make sure no functions are being utilized. If that doesn't help you right-click the cell in which you are posting the number you can "Format Cell". Use the "Number" choice.

nope didn't work
keeps doing the math
keeps going to "Sum" instead of just letting me insert the negative sign and pressing enter

I did the number choice, but it already added up the sum to the others
I tried inserting -0.94 and before I can go to "Numbers" it adds it up

Highlight the entire column, then format the entire column for "Numbers". After it is formatted, you should be able to enter negative values. Otherwise, I got nothin!

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!
