saw this review and thought I'd pass it along to those of you who haven't thumbed through an issue of JRations.....I'm not the only one that thinks it's well worth your time.

Jeep, Land Rover and Range Rover News

J Ration Magazine - a review
February 1st, 2007 by admin
So, while I was looking for a magazine on Porsches today (planning for my mid-life crisis in a few years. ), I found this brand new magazine.

It’s focus is Jeeps and the Jeep lifestyle.

Now, I was skeptical when I first picked it up - I mean isn’t there enough print rags targeting Jeep owners already?

Well, turns out this one has legs. Jrations is well thought out.

It’s basically the same format as all the rest - normal size, glossy pages, full color. The same compliment of excellent advertisers you’ll see in all the other mags, plus a few niche guys possibly taking advantage of lower ad rates due to this being a new-ish pub.

I snagged issue #4 from my local newsstand, and when I sat down, I expected to see the usual mix of Jeep junk I’ve grown accustomed to when reading JP magazine.

Man, was I off the mark.

They covered it all:

New Jeep stuff
Old Jeep upgrades
A couple of good feature Jeeps
Useful tips and trick
Helpful How-To section
Trail Rides - not mud-bog stuff - just trail riding - you know, in the woods, with mud AND rocks - refreshing images and more what I’m personally used to
Even covered some history and military bits
Overall, this new magazine easily outshine JP Magazine. No stupid “junkyard build up to fit 44″ tall tires on an oddball Jeep in here”. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE oddball Jeeps, and I like the capabilities of something that big & built, but really, it’s just not something I could reasonably fit in my life.

Well, I say it outshines JP Magazine, but really, it’s just my opinion of it. It’s much more “me” than JP has become. It’s everything I’d want in a magazine focused on this niche. I’m willing to bet there are tens of thousands of others out there just like me, too. This new magazine isn’t as “hard-core” as some others, but most Jeep owners aren’t “hard-core” either. They like the lifestyle, the image and to tinker a bit here and there. They love the brand, it’s history and the image it portrays - all of this is showcased in this new magazine.

Get out there, get a copy, support this one folks - it’s everything the Jeep lifestyle needs in a print publication. It features great rigs, how-to articles, gear you should have, safety tips, Q & A on tech stuff, and loads more.

I’m pretty happy I slapped the coin down for this one today.

Disclosure: For the record, the folks over at Jrations have no idea about this article. I plan on contacting them so they will know, but right now, as I write this and post it, they have no knowledge of my thoughts on their magazine - so no, they didn’t pay me to do this.

Yep, I'm here. Duane over at ajeepthing.com wrote to us after he'd posted his review of J Rations. And he's right...he doesn't work for us, and we had no idea his review was there until he contacted us.

We work seven days a week to hurdle the difficulties that come with launching a new magazine. We are in a David v. Goliath battle with you-know-who for readers, advertisers and circulation, and we immensely appreciate the support of everyone in the Jeep community. Duane refers to the "tens of thousands out there just like me," and that's our challenge—to reach those enthusiasts.

That said, J Rations is growing every day. If you read Rob's editorial in Standard Issue 5, you'll see that he's announced that J Rations has passed the "go/no go" point. But we don't have a lot of money for the swag everyone wants...and we wish we did. We contribute magazines and subs to clubs and forums whenever we can, because we really are you! We get it...always have, which was why we started Jp back in 1995.

If we can really get the muscle of the Jeep community behind J Rations, you'll see some solid action on our part...greater frequency, more pages, more widespread distribution, more multimedia, a better website. We appreciate every single one of our readers, because it's you guys and gals who make it possible.

If you buy products from companies that advertise in J Rations, please let them know you saw their ad in the book. Believe it or not, it really makes a difference.

rticul8, please email me a rate card and media kit to deverhart@wranglerforum.com, please also include a phone number as I would like to speak with you later in the week. I believe we can help promote your magazine in the phoenix metro area.

I got my subscription a couple of months ago. I even went back and bought the back issues online so I would have the mag from the very beginning. I love it!

They get broken into all the time. I live out in the boonies.

But, I need to subscribe again, JRations is so much better than the other mags I've read and though I got to B&N all the time, I forget to look at the magazines.

I got JRations issue #5 today in the mail. I got to checking, and I have no issue #4. I e-mailed customer support at JRations and inquired whether they showed it sent. They did, but they are sending out another copy, since I didn't get that one. Another mail thief?

I was impressed with their prompt and no-questions-asked approach to resolving my problem.

We all need to support them!!!

I know as soon as I get a freaking job one of the first things I am doing is getting a subscription.

Also, would there be a way for me to purchase the ones I missed. I am OCD and when I read a magazine that is fairly new I like to own ALL issues from the beginning.

Back issues are available on our website. They're $5.95 for a magazine only or $9.95 for the [Hardcore] versions of SI1 and SI2 (magazine and multimedia CD-ROM).

Hope you enjoy!

No big secret. I really want to everyone to buy the issue to check it out. The owner of the jeep is an active member here, but doesn't want to toot his own horn.

I'll let yall off the hook later, but you should really check out the issue to see who it is. I bet one look at the cover and yall will recognize the jeep.

I could do some cutting and pasting and put my YJ on the cover!

Maybe I need to mail my copy to the guy and get him to sign and send it back to me. It never seemed like a lot of the jeeps I ever saw on the covers of mags belonged to real people. I mean, they often-times belonged to someone at the mag or a vender of some sort. I really enjoy that J Rations puts 'real jeeps' on their covers.

Alright already! You called me out! Yes, it's one of my Jeeps!

The J-rats team did an awesome job! I almost couldn't believe it's the same Jeep I run around town in when the weather is nice.

That bright yellow paint is an eye catcher though... when I drive into town (Gettysburg) and park somewhere, the Willys instantly becomes another tourist attraction! It's actually pretty funny to watch the tourists come over and pose with the Jeep.

Being on the cover of J-rations is a very huge compliment!

Yes, they did an awesome job. As you did with your cj3a. Congrats on the spread. You should be proud of your jeep. And we are proud to have you as a member of the forum!!!

Anybody subscribe to JRats? I do, but I don't know when to expect an issue. I subscribed quite some time ago and haven't received an issue yet.

Anyone?

Yes, I do. I haven't gotten one in quite a while. My first issue was issue 3, I ordered 1 & 2 back issues on line and got them right away, Issue 4 never came. When I got issue 5 I called about issue 4 and they sent one right out to me. I'll check the website and see if 6 is out yet.

Was that confusing?

The web site says it's on newstands now. But I haven't gotten issue 6 yet.

Rticul8 is affiliated with JRations... try pm-ing and see what's going on with your order. I will be patient and see if issue 6 comes this week.

Hey, guys, I'm here.

Amerijeep, I checked your subscription. It came in after Standard Issue 5 was mailed out, so your sub started with SI6.

Dare2BSquare, I checked on yours as well just to make sure all was well. And it is.

You should both receive Standard Issue 6 before the end of the week. It can take up to three weeks for all copies to be received.

J Rations is published bimonthly, so you should receive an issue every two months. If there's ever a problem or question, please feel welcome to contact me about it.

I take this as a Oxymoron. This guy/gal writing this review, is thinking of buying a six figure sports car, and is squeamish about spending 40k, for a killer Jeep? Sorry folks, but that just doesn't wash with me.

And sorry if that offends anyone. Just my opinion. That write up is lame!!!!!!
