not to offend...

Odhinn got me thinking in my elf thread (I'm not really an elf, I just play one on WF) about how far we go not to offend people.

Now I'm not talking curbing your language so much, though that's part of it. I'm talking keeping opinions to yourself. I've never been good at it, but I've found that lately (and I can convienently blame this on my head injury) I have less and less ablility not to say exactly what I'm thinking. I've stood in rooms a couple of times where silence rained down on the words that fell outta my mouth.

Who's delicate, who's silent, and who just says it loud and proud and lets the chips fall?

I'm selective really. I still have to work on picking my fights a bit better. Sometimes it's just not worth it. I've always been a bitch though so I guess there's no trying to hide it. lawlz

I tend to say things that can be taken in the wrong way...(Like I needed to tell y'all that!) Then I'm like, what? then

I have my leg permanently stuck down my throat. I blame it on testosterone and my chosen career path but those are just excuses. My Mother raised me to be considerate of others feelings and accept their opinions but my opinionated views seem to just fly out of my mouth with a force that many people take offence to.

Why can't we all just get along.

I actually found myself saying nice job to a woman I didn't know who obviously had no idea how to park her gigantic SUV. She looked at me like I had a lobster hanging out of my nose when I said it but..... I said it with a smile.

A few years back I was very careful on what I said and who I said it to. But 2 years ago I had a realization when I was standing in the middle of Notre Dame in Paris France.

I realized that we are only on this earth for a very short time and we have to do and say what is best for ourselves..I am not trying to sound like a selfish prick, but that is what I realized. The Notre Dame cathredal has been there for hundreds of years, millions of people have pass thru the doors. And to be honest there was nothing that is showing that I was there...so my new life philosphy is do what I want, when I want, and live like every day is your last.

I hope that is not too corny.

sorry hard to type the whole concept of what I experienced that day.

If I ask myself, "what difference is this going to make in a hundred years?" I usually can stop myself from being a jerk over something unimportant.

Seriously I have found that there is a correct time and place for things to be said. Sometimes something needs to be said (should be done privately not publically) but is not received very well. If this is the case then I say to that if the truth hurts then change the truth. Sometimes, in anger or during stressfull times, things come out of our mouths that are not truely ment to be said. To this I say, tuck your tail and appologize or you WILL have an extremely lonely life with even your family having a spitefull hate for you. Sometimes we are just very opinionated and close minded to what others think (me most of the time but I am working on it). The best thing about America is that we can all have seperate opinions about an issue or situation and still be correct. I may not agree with you on some issues and you may not agree with me but we both have the right as humans and Americans to have our own opinions and not be a bunch of sheep bowing to the will of one collective (Yes I do watch Star Trek, Alot).

The almighty Shrek has spoken now all may return to what they were doing.

I am a smart a$$ by nature and my opinions tend to be expressed that way. It used to get me into trouble when I was young. But I learned, a long time ago, that most people don't share my (evidently) warped sense of humor. So, I keep my mouth shut, most of the time, while my brain is screaming all sorts of comments that are not appropriate.

OTOH, I'd rather be a smart a$$ than a dumb a$$.

Well this is why I like the format of a forum. I actually have a chance to think about what I want to say before I say it. That being said, all of you can rest assured that I've said exactly what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. At least that's the case 99% of the time.

I'm with you on this one. I have typed replies to posts on all the forums I frequent, that upon proof reading I just delete the whole thing. I've been absolutely roasted for saying what is on my mind. Or I've posted something and felt bad for doing so. What ya going to do?

You don't have to be sorry or politically correct. I am what I am. I struggle with a blunt attentive personality. I don't beat around the bush. I sometimes need a reminder that other people like stuff sugar coated with lollipops and candy canes.

Seriously though, there is a fine line between having your say, which I've no problem with, and just being down right rude for the sake of raining on someone's parade.

don't you feel like some people really deserve it though? If they are so inept to listen to reason shouldn't someone e-slap them in the face?

I could give a rip about personal opinions, but some times your tech info is as smooth as butter.

I don't know, MRC. There's usually a way to say something better, but if they don't get it, I'm not one to e-slap. I figure it's not my place.

So is there some form of etiquette over people you are around all the time or just the ones you meet in the parking lot?

Yeah, there's etiquette, but I think I'm more of an offender on the humor side of things like Amy said, though obvious idiots cause me to lose my temper. People who toss lit cigarettes out of their cars or those who feel the rules don't apply to them. People who aren't knowledgable about a subject I am don't bug me, even if they ask questions that I find naive.

Not that anyone cares or I care if anyone cares but I see it like this. I've never felt the need to test my e-penis or see how big it was. I'm slightly smartassish, jokey, playful most of the time. I treat people online exactly the way I act in public and how I would like to be treated. It's not for everyone but not everyone is always going to get along...ever. I see no reason to try to be overly cool or to try to make folks like me because I'm good enough, I'm strong enough, and gosh darn it...people like me. Sometimes.

I also think that our society has gotten overly sensitive and self righteous on a stellar level. It has gotten to the point where everything is offensive and I think that's bullshit. True, there are people out there who have pushed and will continue to push the envelope of what is acceptable in public and often cross the line. It is not our responsibility to censor and stop what we feel is not appropriate because that's what we believe. Who am I, or who is anyone to tell you what is acceptable for you. Something may be offensive to you but you have the ability to turn the channel, walk away, or surf other sites. I think we all just need to get over ourselves and enjoy what little time we have on this rock. Live well, love hard, play often, and be the best you can be for yourself. The rest of this BS is nonsense.

I've rambled enough I reckon... Cheers!

Ok, all this honesty makes me realize I just have to say something. Somebody in here needs a shower

Seriously, I'm an ass, I hate rude people and when I encounter one I can't help but pick at em until they lose their cool.
There's a good reason I work nights.
