AND complaining about it being cold too, don't forget

Just FYI, I'm in my shorts and a t-shirt sitting in my garage, drinking beer (fast so it doesn't get warm) and tinkering with stuff that don't need to be fixed and watching football.

I didn't go to the beach today because the water has to be like 65 deg and it's chilly!

After you numb up, it's quite refreshing. It was a beautiful day at the beach, and not crowded. I love that. Yesterday we practically had the place to ourselves.

Yeah, but only AFTER you go numb!

My wife LOVES the beach, but 20 years of floatin' on it has cured me.

I'm a drinker and LOVE the fact that they put the drinking lamp out on the beach too! I only take the family to the military beaches because of the "beach people" but now I may be able to go a bit more.

Any November day a the beach is a good thing, no matter the water temp! Glad you had fun! If Chris was complaining, I'm sure its mostly the "shrinkage" issue!!!

Last time Cain was warm in November with sand under his feet he was decked out in his deserts. He's not complaining.

Military beaches? How does one gain access to them?

I will have to go take a trip to the beach this winter when it snows. There is just something about a beach covered in snow that you cannot describe with words properly, at least I can't. I went during a big snow storm a few years back. It is also pretty interesting if you play with the sand. On a whim, I digged some snow of the sand and started playing with it. The first few handfuls were obviously cool, or the snow would melt, but not far underneath the surface, the sand was warm. Very warm. Warm enough to make my hands comfortable again after digging in the snow without gloves, almost like those heat packs you put inside gloves. Really cool.

Cain needs to get a DOD sticker for his car and then you can drive on the base at Camp Pendleton. Del Mar is a pretty nice beach.

Yep, like Unlimited said. Get a sticker and from what I've read, he should have an ID. With that, base access is a breeze.

Camp Pendelton is nice, but unless you live in North County, try the southern ones. My personal fav is the amphib base in coronado. It's just south of the hotel Del Mar and is great! The NAS NI is only a couple miles north (also on the island) and is great too!

PM me if you guys have any questions as there are a TON of military fun/easy/cheap things to do around here!

No beach, but I believe it was somewhere around 83 here today. Wheelin yesterday was also nice with no sleeves and shorts on.

Then dad told me that it was 37 in KC yesterday and it only made my 8 year decision to move here even better.

That picture was taken at South Carlsbad State beach. We camp at the beach 4-5 times a year. We alternate between Carlsbad and San Elijo State Beach. Every now and then we go to Silver Strand down on Coronado. My rig is to big for San Onofre.

I'm not DOD so I have to stay at the public beaches. We used to camp at Del Mar with my sons' Scout troop. The people at Pendleton were great hosts, we would bring our troop down for the weekend and camp in the sand at Del Mar. They would always hook us up with tours and activities. I've trained with the HRST guys on the tower, driven a crash rescue vehicle and played with the water cannon, flown a cobra sim, toured the munitions museum, watched a live fire demo out on one of the ranges, toured the LCAC base, and done a lap around the bay in an AAV. It was a lot of fun and I got to know some great people. 9/11 pretty much ended it for us though. Most of our contacts got deployed and the base tightened up security. Del Mar stopped letting outside groups camp on the beach a few years ago. That's when we stopped going.

You mean you actually got in the water? My wife and I went for the Fourth of July, and the water was as cold as here in the winter!

Yeah... Hey are black toes a bad sign? I found a few toenails in the blankets this morning as well. Oh well, that much less to take care of!

The only beach I've been to since summer is fiesta island, fun place to mess around.

Ever since my girlfriend left for college (UC Irvine) we never go to the beach anymore.

EDIT: BTW Stevens, I went through lakeside for the first time the other day, I have never seen so many lifted trucks in my life.
