NREMT test anyone?

Has anyone here taken this test? (National Registry Emergency Medical Tech). Actually the one I have to take is the First Responder test, now known as Emergency Medical Responder. (EMR) I got a 91% on the State of Ohio test at the end of the 40 hour class, but from what I'm hearing the NR is much more difficult. The Gov wants us to be Nationally certified in case we have to travel for an emergency outside Ohio. I take it on 1/8.

I'm not really into this - they just decided to get rid of the old FRs and give Security the job. Yay.

Yeah Gus. I took it. Of course my NREMT (EMT-B) was taught in a military and accelerated setting. It was tough. But we did the course in a fraction of the time that civilian organizations do it. It's all attention to detail. The worst part of the whole course is the clinicals. My instructors didn't leave ANY room for error. You'll enjoy it.

Yeah - they rushed us through it too cuz they waited too long and suddenly realized they had to get about 60 officers certified. It's supposed to be a 40 hour class spread out over two weeks at 4 hrs / day. We did it in one week - 8 hrs / day. That was like four chapters a day with about 3 -4 hours of study every night. And no - I'm not really enjoying it. This isn't something I really wanted to do - I'm being forced.

So far the one person that took the NatReg said it was mostly scenarios and all her studying didn't help much. She's pretty sure she failed cuz she guessed a lot and the computer cut her off after about 80 questions of 150. That could be good or bad - but if you seem lost it's probably bad. She got the same score on the state test as I did.

From what I was told they have about 3000 questions the computer randomly chooses from ranging from 1-10 in difficulty. You have to average 70% - or consistently be able to answer at least 7 rated questions - but that's all hearsay - which is why I originally asked.

I ain't lyin' - I'm a little stressed. Can you tell? It doesn't help that I'm OCD either.

You'll do fine! Sounds like they have broken the class up into specific categories. Like I said, mine was EMT-B and there were a lot of didactics. Back when I took it, there was no computer test given. You took the class, then performed your skills in front of the instructors. Sounds like they have it geared like a computerized Nursing exam now. And trust me, those are scary to take. But, with that being said, relax and don't second guess yourself. Go with your best answer every time and you'll make it! Good Luck!

ABC's, Airway, Shock, Pedi/OB, Airway, CPR, BSI, Airway

Know your numbers... HR, Resp, BP's for Pedi and Adult

Know the difference in Cardiogenic, Neurologic, Hypovolemic(sp) Shock and the signs.

Did I mention Airway?

It's an adaptive test. It considers your answers, the time, and difficulty of question then adjusts the difficulty based on your answers to pre-set "key" questions. My test shut off 50 something questions into the test. I just knew I bombed it and I had completed the course 1st in my class. I was a wreck all the way home waiting, and then didnt get my results until the next day to find out I passed.

If it's like the national pharmacy exam it will cut off when you have succeeded with enough correct weighted answers to pass the exam. I know that seems weird but they can verify your grasp of the knowlegde without answering every single question. It just makes you really nervous since it is not a typical test scenario and then you have to wait on the results to boot. Just try to work steady and calm. Your knowledge should get you through this as well as the state exam. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll really be glad when this one is over. I found out last night that the female officer who thought she failed it actually passed, which gives me a little more hope since we scored the same on the state test.

Hey man don't sweat it. I am sure you will do fine. The test is all about basics. Take your time answer each question. You can't go back. Abc's. ABC's. If I can pass the NREMT-P test you can pass this. Don't worry about when it cuts off. It is based off your answes and how you answer them. It is based on a 1-10 scale. Go with your gut feeling. Good luck and let us know how you do.

You'll smoke it man, don't worry. I finished class the end of May, and I just went and took the test last week. If I can recall it after 6 months of non-use, you can swing it easy.

I passed! Don't know the score yet, just that I passed. Thanks to all for your advice and encouragement - it helped me and is greatly appreciated.

So far our security force is 3 for 3 and every one thought they failed. Very tough test.

Wow. That brought a tear to my eye. Seriously. You guys really do care. I love this forum! If there's ever anything I can do for you - just say the word.

Actually, I think the sudden relief of stress has made me all emotional and maybe even a little shocky. But it's cool, I'll just lay down in the supine position with my feet elevated and put on a non-re-breather mask and give myself a good dose of O2!
