That is total BS!!! I am a die-hard, loyal, Nascar fan. I trully hope this is a bad joke. If is not a joke, it just proves that everything Obongo touches turns to CRAP! Get ready boys and girls, life as we know it is on a fast track to hell!

Not paying to bail-out GMs racing ventures actually sounds OK to me. They can fund that when they make a profit, but not out of my tax bill.

Good luck with that socialized racing. Just remember to make all the cars red. lol

Why did I know you would be posting after me?? HA HA HA!!!!

Why not?? WE have bailed out some of the biggest scam artist in the world over the last few months. Keep riding the Obongo bus...it leads to nowhere. Would it be better if we make all the carrs have loud thumping music, 24" rims, and a nice little crown air freshner on the dash?? LOL LOL!!!!!

That wouldn't bother me as much as the Bonus scandal. Besides that the big three are helping a huge industry with their sponsorship, not just a few key individuals who would pocket the money.

Why should any bailed out auto company be allowed to use the government funds for seemingly trivial expenditures?

that's a legit question, people.....

I agree with that but your going to hurt other companys with that for the sponsors on the cars. It is a touchy issue. Yea I don't want to be paying so the boys can go race in there stuff but I don't want to hurt the companys that are fighting to stay alive with the sponsors.

Its just hard to picture a Nascar Race with five cars.................all Toyotas.

Plus it would actually kill a billion dollar industry.

So, President Obama has made a hasty decision based on only the surface facts and didn't look at how this "banning" would spiderweb across the nation. More jobs losses will most likely result I assume.

My question is, how much money are these car makers getting from the teams? Those engines aren't cheap.

And...I'm just curious if anyone has clicked the link.

People need to face up to the fact that this didn’t happen in the last month. These banks and other industries methodically lobbied and set up this giant screw job while we did little to deter them. Hell, in many cases we voted them in.

Now we don’t want to bail out the offenders, but we also don’t want to deal with the job losses, or in this case, loss of revenue associated with a money making sport.

As for it killing a billion-dollar industry, I wouldn’t be so hasty. I suspect we might even see teams based around corporate interest outside the auto industry just as we have a variety of interests supporting the sport now. Obama did not ban M&Ms.

Yes I clicked the link. He says out by 2009 IF they want additional money. It is their decision. The auto workers that build the cars should probably come first, I would guess.

Hopefully this whole deal will cause NASCAR to get back to being a race series that actually MEANS something. Having worked in the business (I worked for Roush Racing in NC), I can say, even insiders saw this coming, especially when the bailouts started. There has been a cry for YEARS to get back to STOCK cars, not purpose-built race cars that have NOTHING to do with their production counterparts. Look at Motor Trend's comparo- Camaro, Mustang, Challenger- you bet your butt I'd love to see mildly modded (with factory performance parts WE can buy, to be even better!) versions of these cars race!
But, as was stated above, paying for NASCAR teams on taxpayers' dollars is ridiculous. Sure, it's an entertainment industry that makes some people a lot of money, but it'd catch on quick with even the most diehard fans that they're paying TWICE for their night at the races. Hopefully the re-structuring will extend to auto racing (not just NASCAR, but ALMS and other OEM-backed race series), and cause them to get back to more grassroots-style series.
Anyway, that's my two cents on the whole thing. No great loss, and it was bound to happen sometime. Hopefully everyone comes out the other side stronger and more focused on what REALLY counts- the long term, not the quick buck. Cheers Mark W.

That grass roots type racing still exists. Its always been there. It just doesn't make it to ESPN & FOX too often.

I know grassroots racing is still around- I participate via both NASA and SCCA. It just hasn't gotten the kind of support (not just TV and radio) that it should- Mark W.
