Old Spare Tire Question
I have an old 2003 Ram 2500 4x4. Had her for over 10 years and she's a great truck. She's always been garaged and looks showroom. I still have the original E-rated spare tire mounted and it's never touched pavement. The OEM BFGs last forever, the originals lasted 77,000 and I replaced them due to age, and the current 2007 treads still have life left but they're getting replaced due to age. It's not worth risking a blow-out, crash, or folded fender, so I'm replacing the 7 year old tires.
Here's my question. Is the 11 year old spare still worthy of creeping me home in a pinch? Would you trust it to that end? Just to keep the brake rotor off the ground until I get to town, should I need it? It's an 11 year old tire, but with almost no elemental exposure and no miles. It still looks good. I don't push the Ram off road, since I have the Wrangler. The Ram is pretty much a retired garage queen.
