Opinions on tribal tattoos

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on tribal tattoos. I have heard anything from they are way too cliche to they look awesome. I am working on my own design based of off others, which will be the standard black lines with red mixed in somehow not sure yet.

Personally, I like the way they look if they are done right. I am not talking about the barb wire armband, but I have seen some that are just awesome designs. I am also part Native American if that helps the whole you can only get it if you heritage says you can argument.

Get one on your face like mike!

JK Seems like EVERYONE has one these days and it's almost unique to not have one. I'd save the money and donate some blood instead. Karma credits anyone?

It's up to you and what you can live the rest of your life with. Every time I want to get one I sleep on it for a few weeks and realize that would have been a stupid tat. If you are going to get one plan it out and make it unique and not just something simple off the wall type of tattoo that everyone has. Make sure it means something because you live with it for the rest of your life.

Have one, designed it myself. Working on how to finish it since I didn't get to achieve the goal the final part of the design symbolized.

Tiny,
Thats kinda what I want to do. I have just always liked to look of lines/ tribal designs over slapping a picture or something important on myself.

When done right, they're cool. I've got a tribal type 'shield' on my arm.

Whend done wrong, well, since I don't have anything nice to say I won't say anything at all. Instead, I'll just provide a link. New tattoo. - BuckeyeStangs Message Forums

Also, here's this little insight for tattoo meanings:

I'm not to much for Tribals, yet I've seen some that are really amazing.
I think alot of people jumped on the Tribal band wagon and totally played them out. But the bottom line is if you like it. If that's what you like, go for it man. Who cares what others think. Your skin = your choice.

If you really want to go tribal have your tattoo artist custom draw one to fit your body. it will look better and be one of a kind.

Whoever created that obviously based it on stereotypes of society in general. It's nothing personal.

Don't worry about it Silver, likewise I've never seen the inside of a prison cell. Stereotyping only paints the stereotyper negatively.

05GT-O.C.D. great tat map, I have to show that to my 18 year old son who just got his first tatoo last week up high on his shoulder. I actually like it better than I thought I would since I'm not into tats myself.

Take a look at some Hawaiian tribals. A buddy of mine has a half sleeve/shoulder done in that style and it's beautiful. The designs seem a little finer to me and more patterned. Might fit more what you like or are looking for.

They don't have anything for where my tat is. Guess I defy stereotyping.
