I know its Yugoslavian, but not sure of the year. The numbers all match except one peice, I believe it was the firing pin block that was different. It was used though, has the number on the stock, along with a signature. It also has a blood stain on the bayonet. To be completly honest, I tore it down, sprayed it down with a case of brake clean to get the cosmoline out, and shoot it like that. I have NEVER cleaned the bore (never did find a 7.62x39 cleaning kit around me) and it still shoots within 2inches POA at 200 yards Barrell must be some kind of decent...

Scout: That picture was actually taken about 2 feet from our fire pit, but since we have 100 acres of valley/hay fields and 200 acres of "mountain," we dont exactly make sure our grass is tip top Lawn mower and tractor, thats about it

Nice shootin, Tex!

You should try a local gun shop. I got a kit that cleans the bore for about 20.00 and that is with some Hoppes #9, rods, swabs, brushes, etc.

I also got a Yugo SKS cleaning kit, sling, and oil can from our local gun/pawn shop where I got mine. I keep it in the stock.

Mine only came with an old nasty barrel cleaning ROPE, and an empty gun oil tin, in the originial leather holder. I have tried a couple gun places, they are always sold out of 7.62x39 cleaning kits . Ill get one soon, just havent seen one when I am in the store. I do have some Otters and Hopes #9 etc. but all my rods/patches are for the 380 and .22

If you can't find one locally I can get you a couple.
Don't use the factory kit for regular cleaning, the rod is steel and will degrade your bore.
That Henry may be the best looking rifle you have but that SKS is a very well designed and built weapon that will never fail you if you take care of it, don't let the price fool you. I loved my chicom.

Oh I know Skeeter. Thank you for reminding me though As I said, I don't have any expensive firearms myself (plenty at the farm from family members) but I haver NEVER had either of those "Economy firearms" fail me except one FTF in over 3,000 rounds with the Bersa. As I said, the SKS was stripped down and cleaned with a case of brake clean to get the cosmoline out of it, and thats it. Oiled some places, didnt oil others (as I read was best), and never put anything through the bore other than brake clean. That is the simplest and most reliable firearm I have been around (semi auto anyway). It has never given me ANY greif, and it always true. I have somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 rounds through it, and its never once thrown me an unacceptable stray, or a FTF/FTE even with WWB.

I apperciate the offer skeeter, and if you have a spare kit lying around I wouldnt mind taking it off your hands. To be completly honest, its going to be atleast 2 months untill I am able to get back to the farm to use the SKS anyway, and I am sure I can find a kit before then Thanks again for the offer though. SKSs rule

Is your Jeep in Germany? Do you get a lot of "WTF" stares when you drive your Jeeps around?

I don't have an extra right now but we have gun shows here every couple months and there's an old guy with tons of AK and SKS parts, he's usually got a few out for cheap.
