Parts washer solvent

I've got a parts washer that's just been collecting dust for years and I want to put it to use.
What's a good solvent to use? something relatively safe but effective.

it will take you a long time to make it too nasty to use, but it will eventually happen, and no matter what you use in the washer, it will have to be disposed of properly. just about any shop will take it, jiffy lube and so on and dispose of it for free.
