Paved Roads Rant

America can send men and women to space, intergalactic probes to distant worlds, wage war on land, sea, air and space, engineer architectural marvels beyond imagination, lead the planet in science, technology, medicine, and finance, and hot chicks.

Can we find a way to make our traffic lights communicate with the traffic lights at nearby intersections so that traffic can flow?

It doesn't seem to matter what time of day or night it is. I have stopped at every single intersection every day for the last few weeks - especially when I really need to be somewhere!

I stop at 4:30 in the morning when I'm the only idiot awake and wait for the light to cycle..... And wait.....And stop at the next light... and wait. ..

In rush hour, all 10,000 of us stop and wait, get up to speed - stop. Wait. Drive 1/4 mile. Stop. Wait. Drive. Stop.

Is it just for those of us lucky enough to live in south Florida or is it everywhere?

You can't even drive through a red light anymore when there's nobody else awake and the damned thing won't turn green because we have cameras that will document your crime and robots will mail you a ticket - THAT technology is alive and well!!!

That's one of the things I like about the times when I ride my bicycle to work. I always stop at a red light if there's any other traffic in the area but if it's 5:00am and I'm the only one on the road and the light is red...well, I've been known to run a few of 'em.

The first time I did it at an intersection with a red light camera, lights started flashing and I thought it was lightening and I was about to get wet. No thunder and then I realized it was the flash from a red light camera. I wonder what the cop thought when he reviewed that one with no plate in the photo to send the ticket to?

Next time you should flash the camera a nice one fingered salute!

That was a suggestion when I got to work that day but I told them if I rubbed it in their face too much there would most likely be a cop car sitting there around the same time I pass through, waiting for me.

Bicycles don't have enough metal to trip the sensors in the road so I have a choice of either waiting for a motor vehicle to arrive, going the same direction as I am, or run the stupid light.

I would like to give the camera the bird just once.

If it's not too cold where you are, you might try riding through a solid red light with nothing on but a speedo grape smuggler and your Schwinn - AND the bird flying!
