Let's hear about what you do to make the world better! Holding the door for an elderly person, sending a check to St Jude, rescuing animals, curing cancer, big brother-big sister, nothing is too small! 3, 2, 1, go..
I volunteer with my work's pro bono program (I am a corp paralegal); we assist Vets with their Combat Related Special Compensation applications and the long filing process. I also volunteer at the VA's Homeless Stand Down event every year.
Well last thursday was my birthday and I went to the casino to get my free slot play and they give you a big birthday hat to wear. I was playing on the slots and a random old lady comes up and asks if it is actually my birthday. I say yes, and she hands me $5 and says "just promise you will do something good for someone else". Well I made the promise and took the money! The next day I went out to some bars to celebrate my birthday. My girlfriend and some friends got hotel rooms downtown and took a cab to the bars. The ride from the hotel to the bars was $5. Well hours later and a little alcohol, we attempt to head back to the hotel. There was 6 of us total. We get into a taxi van and the driver says $2 a person. I say what? it cost $5 to get down here from the hotel. He insisted that it was $2 a person and would not turn the meter on! It pissed me off to no end, so I made the whole group get out of the taxi. Im not letting someone take advantage of me because Im intoxicated! I go to the next taxi van and he tells me $2 a person too! I go up to the next one and it was the guy that brought me down! He says get in and turned the meter on. We pull up to the hotel and its $5. I gave him a $20 and told him to keep it. Thats more than what it would have cost for the group to go back in either of the other cabs, but it was the principal of it. I passed the $5 that the lady gave me (plus more) to the taxi driver. Funny thing is that the driver had me call into the base and complain about the other drivers for trying to overcharge me. He must have problems with them, or just not like them because he knew their cab numbers off the top of his head!
