People Done Gone Plum Crazy!!!

Long lines in town today for gas. Went from $3.57 yesterday to $3.89 today. There was one station I saw still selling at $3.57, but the station ONE block up the street was $3.89. That's a $.32 difference in stations one block from each other.

There were very long lines at both stations.

Tomorrow should be interesting.

I don't think it will be as bad here as Gustav, It's moving a lot faster. Still there are flood watches out for Saturday night and all day Sunday. We got up to 8 inches of rain out of him. Of course the ground is pretty saturated still and the streams are still high.

Venison season starts here in 3 weeks. I wanted to go out this afternoon and do some more scouting and maybe get some good pics. I'm waiting for my BIL to call and see if he is going with me.

Yesterday here the local paper and news announced that due to the storm gas prices would go to $5.00 by 5 pm today so the stations immediately went from the 3.40's to the 3.80's and a couple even went to 5.00. So naturally there was a mad dash for the pumps and I amdit I bought too, 20 gals between the Jeep and our Ford for 70 bucks. They also put a 10 gallon limit on everyone. Today, they announced it was just a rumor and wouldn't happen. God help the person who triggered this and I'm sending my receipts to my congressman. Anyway, we're holding at around $3.60'ish so far.

I filled up last week for 3.53/gal. Today the cheaper stations were 3.89/gal and out of reg/plus. Premium 4.09/gal. Some went up from 3.62 to 4.62 overnight. We have stations at 4.89 with stations on either side at 3.99. Obviously this is fear driven and we are gonna get screwed yet one more time

Most of the stations in my city are sold out. I paid $4.09 around noon. This morning it was $3.69 and this evening it was up to $4.29. I heard there were several fights over gas and there was even a riot. A gas station was charging people, but it wasn't pumping any gas. All they were getting was air.

I've heard that it will be between $5 and $7 per gallon when the next shipment comes in.

We need to send a bunch of people to jail over this, pure and simple profiteering and price gouging.

Went to $4.49 for regular here most places are sold out of everything but high test and diesel. It's rediculious because the stations already paid for the gas they have in their tanks in the ground. They should be selling it for normal prices. The next loads of gas should cost more for us because it would cost the station more to get it so that would increase the price at the pump. The fuel they're selling right now didn't cost them four bucks a gallon.

An Arkansas County Fights Gas Price Gouging
Posted By: Ebone' Mone't 8 hrs ago

The Clark County prosecutor is looking into possible price gouging at every gas station in the county.

THV's has been told that people in Clark County woke-up this morning to regular unleaded gas prices at more than $4.00 a gallon. It didn't take long for the county prosecutor to take notice.

Over night gas prices in Clark County shot-up, like much of the rest of the state.

Clark County's Prosecutor Blake Batson says with the threat of hurricane Ike, many stations raised prices by about fifty cents. "There were places in town that were selling gas for four dollars and nineteen cents a gallon," Batson.

Clark County was already under a state of emergency after flooding from hurricane Gustav. Friday Governor Mike Beebe declared one for the entire state. Batson says during official emergencies, it's illegal for retailers to raise prices by more than ten percent. "We're just simply wanting to know why gas has gone up fifty cents a gallon within a few short hours for no apparent reason," says Batson.

By 9:30 on Friday morning, city and county law enforcement officers began serving over a dozen subpoenas requesting retail information from area gas stations.

Arkadelphia residents Gary Chiders and Alyse Eady say they're proud of their County Prosecutor. "I think he should go for it and fine the heck out of them," Childers. "I'm glad that he's doing that here in Clark County , and I think that other prosecutors should take notice and do the same things in their counties," says Eady.

People like Jeremy Bell say they'll pay higher prices out of panic. "I had already heard word that some places in southern Arkansas Gas pumps are already running dry; they're running out. Or at least that's the rumor," says Bell.

Batson and other Clark County officials say they want to make sure gas station owners are not taking advantage of people fears.

Batson says after the subpoenas went out, many of the gas station lowered their prices to just under $4.00 a gallon for regular unleaded.

The gas stations have until next Wednesday to turn in their pricing records.
You go, man!!!

gouging applies in areas where the governor has declared an emergency, and penalties can be as much as $10,000 per violation, or for each consumer overcharged, plus restitution for consumers who paid unfair prices, mcdaniel (attorney general) said.

It's obvious that this is just a load of bull. If this "shortage" was real, wouldn't diesel go up as well? Around here, diesel is still around ~$4.30. It hasn't changed a bit. In fact, for the first time in a long time, gas and diesel are around the same price.

The retailers base their price on what the NEXT load of fuel is going to cost not on what they paid for whats in the ground now.
The retailers are caught in the middle, it's the suppliers that are driving the prices up, they are not happy that the prices are coming down, they work on a percentage and a 10% percentage on $3.00 a gallon is much more than $2.49.
I got gas yesterday, about an hour west of me, went to Rausch Creek, got gas in Hazleton, paid $3.49 a gallon, gas at home was $3.79 when I left in the morning, $3.89 in the afternoon, it was $3.53 the day before when I filled up one of the TJ's. One tourist trap we have on interstate 80 and state road 115 was charging $3.99 but he gets tourists who don't know that there are 3 stations 3 miles up the road that are a buck to a buck 50 cheaper.

We are seeing stations cut off reg/plus while they still have it in the ground trying to avoid buying as much next week at higher prices with the possibility that the price will fall back the next week then becoming stuck with 4.50/gal gas if prices drop back.
