People who answer with no help at all!

I don't understand why people answer someone's threads with answers like "google it". Obviously someone could google it! But we come here to get the best answers so don't be a d***.... If you dont have an answer or something nice to
Say just keep that to yourself.

No people come here expecting other people to do the research for them and then post the answer up. First YOU search, and when you come up empty THEN you post. Waste your time on your problem first, then ours!

There's a degree of "Googling" necessary before one should post questions, but a lot of times you'll find that the people telling you to "Google" something don't actually know the answer and are only trying to feel elite.

Personally, I'll answer the same damn question a hundred times. I enjoy our sport and I'm out to help anyone I can enjoy it more/safer when possible. Unfortunately, not everyone is into the community atmosphere. Additionally, as DDD pointed out, a lot of people don't research AT ALL before asking a question. Self-sufficiency is a lost art.

If everyone said google it or search the forum, then we wouldn't have anything to talk about.

I don't think it's an "elite" thing at all when a question has been asked and answered 100 times to ask someone to look it up. If you want to answer the same question over and over feel free, but if you have been around a bit you will see the same 2 dozen or so questions pop up over and over again.

Sometime you might be posting in the wrong spot to get the answers. Everyone is very helpful. Just be patient and search some threads.

I'm the person who ALWAYS does the research first. So when some one tells me to "google it" after coming on here and ask what I consider the best people to ask. It really makes me PO'd. If its "wasting your time" why "waste your time by saying google it all. Just dont answer it and keep on moving. No one is forcing a response out of anyone.

I never say google anything if it's something I can help with I answer. If it's been covered to death, I ignore it and move on. Someone else can can cover that.

When I started jeepin there was no Internet , and most of what I did was trial and error.. I still have questions and this is about the best place I know of to ask, and to be asked.. Occasionally I come across a bit harsh, but my dry sense of humor sometimes doesn't translate well into the written word.. Oftentimes I will google something, and it brings me full circle all the way back to here!! Soooo when some one is asking a rather simple question, about the obvious, just remember what it was like when you started this jeep thing.. I'm always happy to help save some new guy/gal a few bucks, about some of the very things that I spent money on that ended up in the scrap pile..

Do you have a question you need answered? And no offense but this is the tech section, this is more general or off topic. Anyways, I can't give you an explanation out of context. But there have been questions asked hundreds of times. And I promise you you can find the answer to 99.5 percent of any question you have out there already. If your question is extremely advanced, well this is the wrong forum for that unfortunately.

That all said, I will try to help people or get the ball rolling in the right direction. I will not search for the entire answer. But if I have knowledge to share I will.

I know this a tech section. But driving a tj I come on this section the most to try to learn new things everyday. I see the google response quite a bit and it's just a little aggravating. I'm just venting..

I've been around forums for a lot longer than I care to admit and I can't tell you how many times I linked someone to the 2" level lift thread or the shift motor rebuild thread on ExplorerForum.com or countless other situations.
I get that some questions get answered repetitively, but as was said already, just don't reply at all if you don't want to take the time to help.
Just sayin'... no beef with you, buddy.

Answering the same questions time and time again can get old, yes. I do remember being a Noob once myself and I take that into account.

I don't recall having ever told anyone to google something, but I have posted links to a place where they can find the info they need.

Basically, everyone's a Noob at some point. Us older, wiser types could probably keep that in mind once in a while.

You wouldn't walk into a business meeting, a college class, or your boss's office without doing some homework beforehand. You would come prepared - you would have a presentation prepared for that meeting, you would study for your class exam, you would have the project proposal prepared for your boss. That is simply a matter of respect for yourself and those around you.

So, when someone starts an incoherent thread that does not have any remote level of basic punctuation, which has evidently been "txt msg" via a cell phone, while eating a pizza, while driving 20mph over the speed limit in a neighborhood crowded with running children, it is very obvious the poster has no respect for themselves, or the time/knowledge of the people whom they expect to do their homework for them.

I will spend several hours over several days, even weeks, researching, reading, measuring, thinking and then repeating to gain basic knowledge on a topic I'm interested in....if I have a question to ask, I try to make it an educated question.

There are very detailed write-ups, instructional how-to's, videos, build threads and other sources of information. There are loads of information available to you - it's up to you to apply yourself and learn.

I have to admit, I'm more likely to answer a post that I can read without hurting myself trying to disect the question. I generally won't answer a question unless I can give an intelligent answer.

I lurked here for several months while looking for a "small" Jeep, and even after I found one it was a long while before I would reply to any post because I didn't know enough to give a good answer.

I try to do my homework prior to asking a question, but then I've been on Jeep forums for a long time.

While I try to help whenever I can, this entire post is spot on.

If I find a post indicative of the second paragraph in UnlimitedLJ04's response, I won't even take the time to post. Have enough respect to (in the very least) present yourself in a standard format or don't expect much of a response.

I don't mind answering questions - If I don't know, I don't try to anyway.

The real pisser - some people don't read or understand the question, so their reply is irrelevant.

Some even intentionally try to mislead - that's just downright dishonest.

Some love to argue - they try to distort the facts and mislead.

That's usually what destroys a good forum - the nutcases!
After the real people go somewhere else, only the nuts remain to argue amongst themselves.
Right now there are several in the dying stages.

Same way with off-road clubs - the few nuts chase off the real people.

I have had nothing put professorial and courteous responses to my questions.
I have actually been able to answer someone about a bad oil sending unit once, but most the time I read and leave the answering to the real Jeep experts, which I am not...yet

I wasn't trying to be rude. I understand it's frustrating but some people just don't see eye to eye with your point of view. All you can do is educated yourself and then help others yourself. That's the truth.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

That quote is important to me. Self-reliance and the ability to build your knowledge base is critical, at least to me. I have no empathy for people that don't understand that, especially when they do so while also neglecting proper grammar and spelling.

I'm glad this was the very first post so I could skip all the rest of them. This is exactly it. Everyone has become your stereotypical lazy american not wanting to do anything for themselves. Like everyone is a CEO and firmly believe the world should do all the work for them and just bring them results. Its pathetic.
