I'd like to see the rest of the family take a stand, and then watch A&E back peddle on this "suspension". Corporate PC BS.

I am probably the only one but I have never seen "Duck Dynasty". I heard it mentioned and I was thinking some character from a cartoon got suspended. No shit never heard of Duck dynasty or phil Robertson. That is one of the luxuries of not having cable tv. Made it 54 years without it.

I'm certainly not a regular watcher. My GF and her kid like to watch it every once in awhile so I'll sit through it while surfing the net. Didn't know that was the dude's name.

The knee jerk reactions to his comments are hilarious. America - home of the sensitive.

Wait until the Liberals start bashing on WalMart and Bass Pro to ban their products. Pretty sad day when a man cant express an opinion without suffering dire lash back.

This is sounds a lot like the Chick-fil-A "controversy" and they made it through fine. Probably were better off afterwards after gaining new support. Hopefully the same thing will happen to Phil and the Robertsons.

I've always loved chick-fil-a and liked the fact that they're closed on Sunday and supported them because of that and their delish chicken. That "controversy" didn't change my frequency of visits one bit.

I don't have cable either.
I saw a little bit of one episode of the show at Cabela's one day while having lunch.
I don't get it.

I think these guys are in danger of being over-exposed.
I see their stuff everywhere, and their faces are plastered all over everything.
I think I even saw a Duck Dynasty oil change service the other day.

To be honest, when I first heard of the show, I thought it was a Donald Duck version of the 80s show Dynasty.

It's starting:

Quote:
"We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm," they write. "We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family."

If you want to let A&E know what you think, contact their sponsors and let them know you'll boycott their products over this and see what tune A&E starts singing...

At the risk of being banned: the guy should have no complaints. He chose to say it. He has freedom of speech. Freedom often has costs. I choose not to mention that I am agnostic, given that I work in a very conservative business. I respect him for having the cajones to state his beliefs, I am too afraid. Of course, he had some cash to say, "take this job and shove it." Huh?

Not sure what cable TV has to do with it. I HAVE cable (satellite actually) and have never watched the show. I've heard of it, but never heard this guy's name. Still haven't bothered to look into what the guy actually said.... couldn't really care less.

You can't say anything against homosexuality in todays society. Although, the bible calls it an abomination before God. It's beginning to sound like Rome revisited.

Yeah, what's happened to this great nation?! We used to be able to buy and sell slaves, and we went against the bible and did away with that. Then we started letting women speak in church, and god forbid, vote! Nonsense.

This used to be a country where you could hate anyone you wanted, and justify it with a 2000 year old fairy tail. We've fallen so far, people!!

So dumb, he's laughable

source: http://www.businessinsider.com/phil-...rticle-2013-12

When asked about whether he witnessed bigotry or racism against black people growing up in the pre-Civil-Rights South, the 67-year-old Louisiana native told the magazine:

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Freedom of Speech has turned into a one way street. It is perfectly fine if you want to bash religion or conservatism but that better be all your bashing otherwise you are a racist anti American bigot. It is a society where we need to embrace everything but the things that built this country ie Religion and Capitalism. Those are two very evil things. Rumor has it that is what caused the fall of Rome, they were doing really well and then some crazy conservative religious zealots started spewing crap and the next thing you know it all came crashing down.

He, and everyone else, has the freedom to say whatever you want. But that freedom didn't absolve the speaker from any repercussions from what is said. It's a fallacy to believe any part of the Constitution grants you immunity when you invoke its rights. For example, a teacher at a catholic school was fired for being pro lgbt rights. Doesn't he have the right to free speech? Yep, and the repercussion for invoking that right was to lose his job.

Keep in mind it works both ways.

Circle of life. A&E is now letting DD (including Elder Pat) back on the air in January.

"...the network also hopes the media and fan furor will cool down over the holidays and that tensions over shooting future episodes can then be resolved"

Feel free to Google for your newsfeed of choice.

That's it. No opinion here. Just enjoying the free entertainment.

While not PC, I am pretty liberal apart from the second amendment. I think the big deal is that he categorized a significant chunk of people (3-5% of people) as aberrant freaks. Given that 3-5% are friends and family to many of us, That is pretty offensive. Hope I helped clarify.

He has the right to say what he wants, but much like the Dixie Chicks, he has to deal with the backlash.

I don't even know anyone who "opposes" Christianity. All of the 3 Abraham-fable-based religions are fine in my book. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all have the same basic teachings "Do good, avoid evil." I don't see how anyone could oppose that. Anything that gets you through the day and convinces you to be a good person is great!

However, when a**holes use their "interpretation" of religious texts to legislate the rights of others, I have a SERIOUS problem. This isn't the Middle East; we don't live under sharia law. We have a constitution that protects individual rights and demands a secular government. Any time some minority group in this country tries to overcome subjugation, there's always a subset of Christians using the bible to support their racism, sexism, and/or homophobia. THAT is the group I oppose.

Could you point me to where he said that? I saw where he said that he considers homosexual sex to be a sin, but I couldn't find the aberrant freaks comment.
