If you can do it for 2k you better jump on it. Normal cost for a PPL these days is around 8k. Less if you go for the new Sport Pilot rating. I have a few hours, mostly in a Piper Cub (awesome plane) and a few in a Baron. I finally gave up. Every time I get enough money to get going again, something bad happens and forces me to use the money elsewhere. Someday I'll get my wings.

Walkeraviator, do you own your own plane? What kind?

well even if it is a deal it is still wicked expensive, b/c that is just for the license i would still need a plane orn reant a plane when i waned to fly, basicly the reason i would do it would be to ge into the blue 21 program in the USCG, otherwise im gonne sign up as a AMT but that is only once im a sophmore in college so i have three more years anyway

I hear ya. I'm hoping eventually the Piper Cub I have time in will become mine, even if I have to pay some. It belongs to a close friend of my mother, who she's been seeing for a lot of years and I might be able to buy it for real cheap. I wish I had a pic loaded, it is a WWII veteran. Recon plane. I love the old tail-draggers.

Doesn't the Army still have a program for getting your Private pilots license?
When I was trying to get in that was one of the benefits the recruiter was touting.

I was medically disqualified from the army. I scored in the 99th percentile on the AFAST and got screwed by soem old medical records.

Anywho yes it is expensive. YOu are looking at spoending $50k to become a commmercial multi engine pilot, and that doesnt even get you a job in most cases. You gotta spend even more to become a flight instructor making $18k a year. Its not a cheap hobby, or a cheap joib to get into. But just like driving my wrangler, it is the best feeling in the world.

I have it made. I get paid a salary to fly airplanes so I can spend my off time driving a wrangler to the lake and go fishin.

Same thing happened to me
I brought it up in case it might be something kg4kpg could use, he's trying to go back to active duty.

I'd give just about anything to be a pilot.

Had my student, and passed the FAA test, but just never got around to get the offical one. Had a few moron's try to fly into me and that for the most part made to think about it...was fun, though..

No benefit in the military for Private Pilot. Now, if you go to school full time for an aviation degree that includes pilot training or an airline pilot course, you can use the GI Bill. I wanted to fly choppers in the army but I'm red/green golor deficient...disqualified. I can never get a commercial license either. Bummer.
