But, you can enjoy the outdoors without a jeep. If you really want to be taken serious about your stance, you would already have a tiny car that uses less gas. It starts at home and not with telling everyone else what needs to be done. Have you started the conversion on your jeep yet?

Plus, that jeep chick you're looking for is going to be using up the oil you're trying to save. Maybe you should look for a prius chick...

Tiny, hes taking the Al Gore stance. Blame everyone else for burning so much gas and oil, while riding around in a private jet and having 100 homes that stay heated/air conditioned

Maybe debruins will sell us some carbon credits from his company to make us all feel better.

I really don't want to discourage DB in any way. I think the easiest time in life is before we get jaded and we still think we can save the world. We need that. It's a sad day when when one finds out that it's not that easy. That answers are not so black and white and that Santa does not exist.

But, one of the things I hate the most about the human race is this need to be a mouth piece. DB, I'm not including you in this because you're still a kid and we need you to be wide eyed and believe in the Great Cause. However, there are so many who say the exact words that Derek has posted here who climb into their giant SUVs and head home to their year round 78 degree homes. Just saying.

Im not telling you how to live your life, you can mod your jeep so you get 1 mpg and I bet id think it was really cool, however drilling in a wildlife preserve is a totally different thing.

Also one there are hybrids that are actually fuel efficient and worth the money I will buy one! As of now hybrids are only 5-10 mpg better than regular small cars, thats why i said we need to invest in researching better alternatives, there is no fast answer, but drilling is not the answer, it only prolongs the problem. We need a kick in the butt to change our ways and im guilty too. If we don't drill and the prices do continue to rise (even if we do drill they will anyway) the demand for alternatives will finally get high enough for companies to devote money towards serious research.

Not ganging up on you Derek... BUT...

Anyone can jump on the bandwagon. It's the guy who's driving it that counts!

Now, down the road, if you keep the same tenacity toward a better world, I may just vote for you in the Presidential Election.

haha yeah im a tad hypocritical but i have been looking for ways to get better mpg in my jeep, so far the best way ive found is jsut not drive, but maybe this hydrogen water thing will work, i think im gonna try it this summer, and that along with me walkinga nd riding and getting rides a lot will decrease my footprint by a lot

and btw we dont have AC and we keep out house at 61 degrees in the winter even when tis -10 out :-P

Hey DB, What were MA and ME before settlers arrived. P-R-I-S-T-I-N-E Wilderness. Get out of my preserve!!!

By the way, I read the other day that there's at least 200 years worth of oil under our soil at the current rate of use.

One the current rate of use is an bad way of judging it b/c our rate of use is growing by 5-10% per year so by 200 years with that same trend..... Also that is not from ANWR that is from the WHOLE of the US, so go ahead drill the whole friggen US, buy all the land on US and send all US residents to Europe thats a smart idea. ANWR is expected to provide 4% of US oil over the next 16 years if it is indeed opened to drilling, not much for all that destruction

Um, Did I ever say it was from ANWR? A very large part of it is in the gulf. We can't drill there, because OUR government won't allow it, but Cuba just signed a deal with Japan to drill 50 miles from the Keys!!! If our politico's would have had our best interest in mind that, my friend, would never have happened.

Why can't we just have all of MA & ME???

The thing is DB that I'm sure most of us would love to walk or ride our bikes to work daily. The fact of life is that it is just not possible. Personally, I have to drive 26 miles one way to get to work. My kids go to school 13 miles away. The nearest store is 4 miles away. And I live well INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS. My wife and I burn a tank a week...each...easily.

More drilling in the Gulf would not be a bad thing. Eyesore for those that travel out that far, maybe, but it could actually help the sea life. (the support structure helps create a habitat underwater)

Drilling in Alaska would not harm as much as you think. Create a couple acres here and there to house the pumps and storage areas and link 'em together with pipes. Your description makes it sound like the whole place would be strip mined and utterly destroyed.

Agreed I, too, do not want to discourage DB's free speech. I actually encourage it. I just hope it isn't laden with the fear mongering crap that Gore and the like have thrust onto everybody...especially the younger generation.

Oh, and I'm also not convinced that Hybrids are the solution. Yes they may burn less fuel than a comparably equip gas based car, but everybody seems to gloss over the problem of what to do with the hundreds of pounds of batteries per car after the cars are sent to the scrap yard.

Also we over look what it takes to produce those batteries...

Agreed. For 17 (?) he's keeping up with all the angles.

And by all means don't think its an attack on your stance. There just has to be a solution in the now that buys us time to develop solutions for the later.

Earth=Coruscant (in a few years if you're an Algorian). Demand will continue to grow because the population continues to grow. Stop demand with mandatory sterilization after the first child, millions less people born, less demand. Seriously though, more people is more demand, bar none. Eventually the planets natural resources will be depleted and maybe our planet will end up like some type of Coruscant type planet. Unless, of course, the Christian's rapture happens or an asteroide takes us out first. I signed, I want a well in my neighborhood.

"Throughout the thousands of generations of galactic history, the entire surface of Coruscant has been covered over by sprawling skyscrapers and cities. The planet's oceans have all been drained and kept in vast underground caverns for future reuse. The only body of water visible is the Western Sea, a body of water created artificially for tourists and natives alike. There are some portions of the city that are actually under the sea. The Western Sea has many artificially created islands floating on it, used by tourists on holidays. The only other piece of Coruscant's landmass that has been left untouched are the Manarai Mountains, twin peaks that stick up out of the ground near the famous Imperial Palace. Many floating restaurants revolve around the Mountains, giving patrons a unique view of the natural wonders.

Since there are no bodies of water nor farmland available to feed and water its trillion inhabitants (despite the fact that it rains on Coruscant, as seen in Revenge of the Sith) foodstuffs are imported from dozens of outlying worlds, while Coruscant's architects, along with many others from around the galaxy, have also worked together to build self-contained eco-systems in the massive buildings set all over the planet. Engineers moreover developed a complex series of huge pipes through which polar ice is pumped through to the cities of Coruscant. Almost everything on the planet, from clothes to packaging and machinery, is recyclable. Another problem for a world like Coruscant is the unimaginable amounts of carbon dioxide that its trillion being population generates each day, so atmospheric scrubbers were put into place in orbit to remove it."

Actaully the worse possible thing would to have it be a little here and a little there and connect it with pipes. The point of the whole presevrve is it is the only place in the world that Elk go to breed and give birth. If you have pipes criss cross it it will disrupt the migration patterns and will actually be more detrementale then just in one place, And btw they're not talking about a few acres, they are talking about 50 square miles to start with and if they find a lot of oil they will expand it to who knows how big!

Uhm...have you actually seen oil pumps? The ones here in TX take maybe a couple hundred square feet of space and are spread around. And the pipe connecting 'em would likely be elevated so it wouldn't cut off sections of land from each other. Your description still makes me think you are talking strip mining operations.

We are talking oil pumps:

Not refineries:

As stated in previous post, you put up an argument/debate. It is neither good or factually correct. You need to quit guessing at the facts and stop spewing the unbased, regurgitated talk points. Let this thread be what the OP wanted it to be and take your views to a new thread.
