Poll: How do you regard the holidays?

This was an add pop-up on my email home page. Thought I would see where we all stand.

I'll be glad when they are over. It sucks at work having everyone take off, people are the rudest this time of year, I GUARANTEE if I turn on the tv A Christmas Story will be playing.. again, radio stations are crap, stores are clogged, traffic sucks, tons of people will have buyer's remorse in 30 days and be depressed and its damn cold outside.

Bah! Humbug!

IMHO, the Holidays are a PITA. I have never had a job that accommodated the Holidays, except when I was a contractor, and then I needed to work as much as possible. My Mother, God bless her, is neurotic about the holidays, and feels affronted when I miss the "party". Ah man, three or four trees, decorated, each in a different motif, scented candles everywhere (allergic to them), fru-fru everywhere. Just a hassle. I think Mom burned my holiday genes out. Maybe one tree all these years, and no candles, or guilt trips, and it would still be fun. Or else, I am just a stick in the mud...

Sorry, I didn't know I only had 2 minutes to add it in and it timed out on me. I logged off the computer and didn't think to check if the thread showed up in OT. Mods, if you can, delete this thread and I'll try to add my poll again.

Does using Safari preclude the use of a spell checker?

For Debruins;

pre·clude /prɪˈklud/ –verb (used with object), -clud·ed, -clud·ing.
1. to prevent the presence, existence, or occurrence of; make impossible: The insufficiency of the evidence precludes a conviction.
2. to exclude or debar from something: His physical disability precludes an athletic career for him.

Too materialistic for me. people forget what it is supposed to be about, and instead only think of how much $$ they can spend or have spent on them!

Well, lets see, as a kid, I grew up in a pretty normal home, preachers kid, Christmas was a big deal for getting together with the family, all that stuff, not so materialistic cuz we weren't exactly wealthy, but we were far from destitute. As I got older, in the Navy, we had an accident just before Christmas off the coast of Turkey, a ferry boat sank, we lost 21 shipmates that night, started a downward trend, then a few years later, my then-wife decided Dec. 23rd would be a good time to clue me in that she wanted a divorce, and I needed to move out, now. Lovely.

I was just starting to get back into the swing of things when in the last 2 years, we lost my Mom in April of 06, Her Mom in Sept. of 06, then after last Christmas sucked enough without them, my Dad passed unexpectedly this past Feb. As it was, I wasn't really looking forward to the holiday, but hoping to see some relatives, kinda take the edge off, right? Well, now my brother and sister are both torqued at me because as executor of the estate, I haven't let my sister screw the estate out of almost $20K when she wanted to buy our parents house. Somehow it is also now MY fault that since they moved out, the house didn't sell overnight for our asking price. Now, nobody is talking to anybody and I probably won't see either of them. Not sure how to explain that whole mess to my little boys...

And don't even get me started on how big of a jackass my sisters husband has become!

So, in conclusion, not such a big fan these days.

I have a bunch of personal reasons to dislike this time of year. Past marriage, not being there full time with my daughter, current marriage that is in shambles that no one will own up to, and all the lovely faking it to make it through another day. The holidays just compound ill feelings I bury to keep from telling those I love that I hate them too.

...but I also have the standard "materialistic" excuse for not liking it either.
