I can tell you how long a steak takes to cook on the BBQ by how many cigs I can smoke. I can tell about things on my job, home many cigs till the job is complete. How many cigs it takes to drive from point A to Point B.

I miss the cigs, BUT,,,,,
  1. I don't miss paying for them
  2. I don't miss coughing all day long because of them
  3. I don't miss the way I smelt of smoke all the time
  4. I don't miss not being able to smell other things I wanted to
  5. I don't miss how my vehicle use to smell each time I got into it
I am sure I can go on and on about it. But I think it gets my point across.

I quit for me, no one else. I wanted to feel better, and maybe live longer. It sure is nice to not cough all the time too. My wife is a smoker, but I still don't smoke. Once in a while I might steal one or two of hers once a month. But that is the extent of it for me now. Damm near everyone I know smokes to, And, It doesn't really bother me at all anymore. That's their choice, not mine. I am happy with mine.

I miss it, but I don't too.

It takes commitment on your part, you have to do it for YOU not anyone else. You have to want to quit, no if's and's or but's.

As for those E-Cigs, they taste awful, they get you hooked on them. Anything that says helps you quit, doesn't really, its just a substitute delivery system.

So Congrats on your progress, we will always be smokers, just not smoking

The money I save from not buying cigs, now goes to Jeep Parts

Off my Soapbox now

Congrats man and my lawn mowing takes 6.5 beers and what used to be 8 ciggarettes (its a big lawn )lol

I can't speak for others, but I used eCigs to stay quit. They worked surprisingly well. I used them for about 6 months after quitting actual cigarettes (25 year smoker; 2 packs of Reds a day). I started the eCigs about 10 days before I quit actual cigs - starter kit costs about $50 - less money for the kit than a carton of logs.
If you use eCigs, I recommend a simple rule... allow yourself to use as many eCigs as as you want, as often as you like, anywhere you want. The smell is barely noticable by others and doesn't "stick" - I did them at my desk at work, at home in the living room and in my car. This was nice because I always went outside to smoke and thus I was breaking the habbit by not going outside to use an eCig. Once you get use to eCigs when you want a smoke, the cigarette fixation goes away for the most part. I used cherry flavored eCigs and started craving the fruity taste more than the smoke fo a cigarette. I did 18mg nicotine eCigs for about 4 months and then went down to 12mg for a month, and 6mg for a month... by then I had no problems quitting nicotine all together as I wasn't that addicted to 6mg nicotine and a cherry flavoring.

EDIT: I guess you already quit. Congrats!

yeah man, I just had some fried chicken and potato wedges, from where my mom used to take me (grew up in a smokers house) I've always thought they were the best thing ever! Today I couldn't even finish eating it!! This is the first time I have ever lived in a smoke free house and don't smoke myself.

First meal I had that changed my opinion on taste was Saturday, got my normal baconator and fries from Wendy's, barely got through the fries! They were HORRIBLE, the burger wasn't the worst, but not what I am used to. It is crazy...maybe I'll try some veggies...

I have been smoking two packs a day for 65 years. And a six pack a day for 40 years. Every year when I get my physical, my Doctor just tells me to keep on doing what I have been doing. I am now 80 years of age, and other than the beginning stages of Alzheimer's, I am in great shape. So I am not really convinced, that smoking and drinking is detrimental to your health.

Now let's look at it from a cost stand point, WOW, Do I ever wish that I had all of that money, that I blew up in smoke and pissed down the drain. Heck, I could buy a couple of more new Wranglers.

So the bottom line is, save your money and spend it wisely, and not on stupidity like I have........................

The e-cigarette is a real popular gimmick that just gets you hooked on an unregulated crutch. Then there's gum...patches...shots...alternative substances...lots and lots of "distractions from the cravings".

Do whatever you need to do.

Research has proven time and again that the best way to quit....is to actually decide to quit. Get into the mind set of "I quite. PERIOD." not "Im gonna..."

Nobody is gonna chase you down the street and shove a cigarette in your mouth and light it. YOU have to buy it...YOU have to carry it...YOU have to light it.

If YOU decide to stop doing that...then you stop smoking. Its a decision. Its a tough decision. You're fighting against chemistry and biology and even fighting a little bit of psychology (peer pressure BS).

But look at it this way. If I strapped on a mask and broke into your jeep and said "Im gonna steal your stereo."...you'd fight like hell to keep me from succeeding. If I dressed up in a giant cigarette costume and said: "Im gonna...kill you...then Im gonna kill your wife...then Im gonna kill your mother in law....oh and then Im gonna kill both of your kids. and it aint gonna be a fun easy kinda killing...its gonna be a slow, hacking, coughing, choking, suffocating kinda killing." Odds are you'd probably put up a pretty good fight against that, too.

Im not trying to stir up $hit. Just putting things into perspective. Every single thing you do teaches your kids something. That is inescapable. The only choice you have is WHAT you are teaching them. FIGHT for what's important to you.

Cute little factoid that might help provide a bit of motivation...just in case nothing else does....every year more Americans die from tobacco than died in ALL of world war 2. Statistically, cigarettes are 740 times more lethal than guns.

Its a choice. Choose wisely.

If you get weak and light one up...that sux...but it aint the end of the world. Put it out and don't follow it with another. If you slip and fall, get back up.

Hang in there....it gets less difficult after 10 days.

Good luck...its worth it.
No worries, I dont sugar coat what I talk about either thanks for your bluntness. Very true about the hazards about 2nd hand smoke too.

Patch, gum, ecig. Just to get me through the first few weeks, then cold turkey. Ive found from previous quits, i am able to make it out of physical addiction, its the psychological one that keeps bringing me back. My goal is in about 20 days to not have any crutches except my calendar with $5 each day and after x days, the day circled with a present for myself

Good work, everybody! Stay with it, it does get better!

My wife and I both quit on 7/27/10. She used the patch, I used Chantix for 30 days. I was up to 2.5 packs a day and had smoked for over 30 years, my wife nearly 40.

I still want a damned cigarette every day.

I didnt give in. Felt like crap all day today. Exactly like Bdrake's day 2&3 combined. But today is day 5. No longer using patch (stopped using it Tuesday) still using the gum an ecig but very sparingly (ecig 5x today, gum 2x.)

I am Glad you've made it a whole month! Congrats!!

Bdrake hope you are keeping up the great work too!!
