Redistribution of Wealth Experiment

Passed on to me by e-mail.....

Quote:
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Todd Schnitt is talking about this on his radio show as I type. Pretty funny, going to have to try it.

And in an alternate universe:

Quote:
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote McCain, the server inside this restaurant needs the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "McCain 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the trickle-down theory. He stood there in anxious anticipation while I told him that I was going to round up every homeless person in the lower 48 states, take what they had in their pockets, and then sell them for medical experiments, gelatin, whatever, and whatever funds I could raise would be his tip. I also asked the server to jot down on a napkin any ideas about legislation that would allow him to not pay taxes on the tip.

I went outside, emptied the homeless guy's pockets, established a task force, and then rounded up every homeless person in the lower 48 states, while passing legislation that would allow a loop-hole for the server to set up a PO box in Kuala Lumpur so he wouldn't have to pay taxes. I sold the homeless for what I could and took the total sum back to the server and thanked him for his patriotic god-fearing service while I handed him a tip that was approximately 10,000 times the cost of the meal. The server was not grateful. The server explained that if I didn't also harvest the homeless in the remaining states, fork over that money, and then take out a loan for five times the GDP of the entire world and also give him that money then the sun would crash into the earth and the human race would die.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the server guy was not grateful for the money he did not earn, but the homeless guy was utilized for pharmecutical testing, and had he been alive I'm sure he would have told you he wished he had another life to give to generate even more wealth for the server.

I guess trickle-down economics is an easier thing to swallow in pill form than in theory.

And now the death rattle from free-market capitalism. I guess greed can kill either form of government. What next?

OK we have two theories here.

The one one below very plausible and believable...................

Oh come on guys, both examples are completely ridiculous. What you should ask is why anyone would work so hard to find the first one believable. We are at a party of straw men, who apparently believe the guy next to them is a fire hazard.

Let's have a pro McCain person pick that first example apart. It won't take much effort. Oh, and I'm not gonna play that North vs. South game anymore. Check my posts and you can see where I've been paying my taxes most of my life.

Pointy, my post was not directed at anyone in particular. I'd just like to not see this board deteriorate into ad hominem attacks and strawman bullshit.

Thanks, I think. Don't know the one about the bird, but I do need some Wrangler wisdom and there is not point in not letting rip in off topic or pretending. I will honestly say that I've read too many crazy threads that can't go without challenge. That Bush resignation letter thing was too funny to be taken seriously by anyone.

Other than the first story involves one man giving a ten to someone and your story involves men in black suits gathering up the homeless and legislative actions.

If you want to explore trickle down, I'm sure there's a better way than that.

I'm sorry Point, I didn't mean for anyone to take it personally. I've watched my writer's board get down right ugly, name calling, friends at each other's throats, and bannings.

I'd love to discuss politics without the extra emotion. We all want the same thing.

Now, torches and pitch forks. I say we get Dare. This is all his fault!!!!!

What is absurd is that the nation is functionally bankrupt and the actions to shore things up will probably lead to hyperinflation and the end of the dollar. Neither candidate is talking about the central issue. Both will HAVE to generate more money and NEITHER has a clue how to do this and won't talk about it at all. The total of the CDO market is more than 60 trillion dollars.

Bickering about which candidate will raise taxes is simple electioneering that has nothing to do with the economic reality.

But the central issue is just not sexy enough to get either elected. They spew generalized plans with no details because details lose elections. The American public would rather watch Palin and Tina Fey on SNL. Spin doctors know their job very well.

Cool. Thanks Dare, I knew you'd understand. The mob will arrive in a couple of hours. I have the beer, Jupiterboy is supposed to bring desert, and Pointy said he's bringing the steaks.
