rubber straps you see hanging off of some cars

WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY FOR!?!?!?! i pondered the question of what they could be used for i saw them 2 times yesterday once on a jimmy and another time on a cavalier. i was thinking maybe grounding the car but then what are your tires doing.

Anti-static straps. You don't see them in the south where I am really. Mostly in the areas where there is lower humidity. I think they are more common out west and maybe up north.

I really don't know, It's humid here, so there is very little static problems. I only know that is what they are for. I have no idea if they work well or not.

I think you only need them if you have the curb feelers.

Man. I can't believe I'm the only one who knew what they are. I remember when I was in the Air Force, lots of the flight line vehicles were equipped with them.

Well, it's not completely snake oil. Have you ever seen a car at the gas pump go up because someone started pumping and then went and sat in the car, then got out and touched the nozzle of the pump. - Spark - Bang!!!

They can be a good thing.

No I don't have one and never have but I also don't fiddle with my clothes while fueling.

Getting in and out of your car (i.e. sliding across the seat) generates static electricity. When you get out to fuel, touch the body of your vehicle before you touch the pump and then stay put while fueling.
