salmonella outbreak!!!!

Hey for every one out there that loves peanut butter. if you have gone in to walmart to get peanut butter in the past two day and noticed there was none there its not because there was a sudden change in everyones tastse and all they want is PB. Its because Peter pan and great value brand PB lots #2111XXXXX have been tained with salmonella.

Yep, we just heard about it last night on the radio. Got home and checked the pantry, now we know why we've been so sick lately

Yes, the numbers match and we've both had symptoms of salmanila, we were wondering why we had the stomach problems with the colds but eh, now we know.

Luckily the kids haven't eaten any lately.

We had that lot in our cupboard, too. Luckily we haven't been eating it lately, but there is only about 1/3 of the jar left... maybe not all that batch was tainted? Or maybe we just didn't eat enough to get too sick. Now that the kids are gone we don't consume much PB.

Man, that's sucks. They were talking about it on our local news last night that they would like people to contact the state health dept. if they were having problems.

The problem is the number 2111 is just the factory code, they aren't telling which specific lot was bad or if all of em were.

Ya, I'm trying to figure out if we should contact somebody or not, salmanilla isn't really all that dangerous as long as you keep hydrated. Heck, I've drank the water in Mexico and survived.

We had a freaking huge industrial size can of it, almost was gone. Numbers checked out. Ours wasn't bad (my sister had actually had some for breakfast), but we still threw it away, but not till after I had a sandwich haha.

Yep - i had some too, didn't effect me other than upset stomach, but my dad had cramps and diarrhea. Together we ate about half a small jar before finding out about this... oh well. We are better though.

Yes, you should have......I love peanuts, and Jiff, has a lot less sugar added, to their peanut butter. All you have to do, to be convinced, is eat a table spoon of each. Your taste buds will thank you for choosing Jiff. JMHO

In my microbiology class I am trying to grow salmonella from the PB, i have a coulpe of different plates to try to isolate it. I wont check it untill tomarrow, if there is any growth that will mean that some of the arkansas shipments where contamanatied. If it is hopefully there will be enough to isolate so i can see it under a microscope and identify it. fun stuff HUH

I haven't been on the net much but I needed a break after taking 5 Political Science tests. Ironically I saw this thread. My Girl's grand-parents were hospitalized for this outbreak. I think they are both in their 80's but not sure. Salmonella and Ecolli are bad news. I have had Salmonella once, I was so sick I couldn't move more then 10 feet without something coming up.
