Maybe, at least, they will open a school for straight people only? It's only fair

^ya, poor attempt at being profound, but missing the real picture by a mile. why does any group get govt. funding to open a high school. if you wanna open a private school to do that, then that's you're right as an american.

Am I not making your point, that we shouldn't have special schools, but good schools for any kid. If we start funding schools for this group and that group there is no end.

How about adding something to the conversation instead of anger? And let's try to be a little less offensive about other people's belief system.

It's a legitimate concern that state funding would go to an exclusionary school regardless of who it excludes. If there is a need for a school that serves only homosexuals, then it needs to be a private school funded by contributers. The live and let live attitude touted by those who feel they are open minded goes both ways.

No anger intended. I'm even against the arts magnet schools. We could fund specialized programs and schools but we need to get the basics right first, for the majority of the kids.

Just because I frame this in an absurd terms doesn't mean I am upset. I do, however, wonder why this example was chosen and why the poster isn't upset about other specialized schools that draw funding away from the mainstream public school system. I mean we have been funding priviate religious schools with taxpayer money for a while now in many states. Not that I have any big ideas for fixing education. I really think we have a parenting skills crisis and secretly hope the education system can help.

PS, you will rarely ever see me post in anger. I'm usually just having a laugh and having a look at how people think about various issues.

Insulting a belief system only causes people to discount what you say. No one will hear you if you choose to be a jackass and use offensive terms. You could have easily said "And one for religious schools" instead of what you did say which was "And one for people who never masturbate and dream at night of washing Jesus' feet with their hair." You chose to state your point in such a way that made you look like an ass and also made others decide that they don't find it necessary to listen to you ever again.

You might tone if back if you'd like to engage people in discussions instead of attempting to piss them off which honestly is what your intentions are looking like at this point.

And you won't see me posting in anger either, the only difference is I will not hesitate to keep the discussions civil.

The article was from 2002 and focused on Cleveland. Cities have to have a voucher system for that article to make a difference in pjdocdave's neighborhood at the moment. Does Chicago?

I personally am not a fan of magnet or private schools. I think we should work together to make our school system better instead of abandoning it. They have tried a system of using the standardized tests/getting more funding but it's not working. So, in lou of private schools, parents need to make an effort to learn about the teachers available and the curriculum. Request teachers best suited for the child and fill in the missing parts of the curriculum yourself.
