Ya know, does anything really prepare you for when they have their own car, keys, and a week off school?

It's funny how perspectives change in life.

Since I wasn't scalped as he almost lifted me into the ceiling fan when we scored with 15 seconds left I can still post.

It's really interesting to watch him adapt to the new freedoms associated with a license and a car.

I was sitting on the porch tonight, waiting for the boy to get off work, listening to a band play in the local park. Artie, my boxer, gets up and runs to the edge of the yard, stands there waiting. Roughly 30 seconds later I hear his car coming down the street. How cool is that?

I guess my boy knows me. He got home from work and I played a game with him. I read him the last posts on the Keep one, take one thread.
When it got to motor skills I said "what would I say here?" He goes "Nun chuck skills." Yup.

Ok, so a serious question....... turkey. I've eaten them for years, grilled them, and fried them. The only thing I really haven't done is prep one. It's just my boy and I this year so I don't need a huge bird. I'm going to be frying it so I've got to have it dry by the time it's ready to cook.

How long does one thaw a turkey?

Hey few variables here first one is kinda obvious...how big is the bird? Second are you sure you want a whole bird, or just a Turkey breast?

Generally around here it seems that thawing should "start" on MON in the fridge..on a large platter with paper towels underneath...I also change the paper towels about every 12 hours and turn the bird over to encourage even thawing...generally speaking that is for a 16-20+ lbs. bird..good luck!!

Whole bird only! You gotta get the dark meat and skin.

I can't imagine I'd need more that 10-12lbs. If that......

Could probably start Mon eve and be more than fine better thawed to early than not in time...assuming Lunch on Thur..if looking later in the day Thur could start as late as Tue am...the biggest key is to plan on it leaking blood (the paper towels) and rotating..once it is thawed it will still "keep" for a day or 2 easily in the fridge...bottom line thaw in the fridge that is the safest way!!

OK, the bird is in the fridge on paper towels and a cookie sheet. I left it in the plastic wrap. Am I good?

Yep only thing you MIGHT want to do is make a couple small say .25"-.5" slices in the wrapper to be sure it can "drain" the water broth blood whatever out of the wrapper.

I guess you don't want it thawing in the blood.

Me being Paranoid...biggest concern IMO is Salmanila (yeah its spelled wrong) thats the reason for paper towels and changing them....LESS chance cross contamination of the fridge or anything else in there...

Yeah, I don't want to kill us.

There's not much else in there to cross contaminate. Lol
