OK, so I oversimplified the napkin.
What I was trying to convey was that engineers need to communicate ideas manually. You will not always have a laptop loaded with AutoCadd to develop a concept. When you are in the field, sometimes, it's just you, your imagination, a piece of paper and a pencil.
Learning to make accurate 3-d renderings (by hand) takes discipline and a lot of practice.
