So, how's the job market in DFW these days?

Strongly considering moving back to Texas this summer. I enjoy being a Govt Purchase Agent but...salary sucks. My civilian counterparts are clearing 10-25K more in pay, I want to move back home, and I just am not happy with my life here. Among other things.

The gas industry is booming. I do not know what kind of work you do, but work is very plentiful, and is paying well.

The gas business has spread into Arkansas as well. Now developing the Fayetteville shale. Our county is popping! Land prices have doubled since the gas companies started signing leases. There are about 5 or 6 major gas companies surveying and drilling as fast as they can. They say this field will be at least as big as the one down around Ft Worth that supplies about half of the gas to the whole country.

I may have to get my brother to try and hook me up. He just got a job over by Mineral Wells where all he does is drive to all the wells in his area checking gauges for 20+ bucks an hour.

If you are in govt work, you might want to check out and see if there are any post openings at FT Worth NAS. I haven't really payed to much attention to other career fields besides railroad and it is booming ATM in most areas. Levinoss just left a high paying job to go back to school, You may want to chat with him when he gets back on the net.

BTW we picked up his first Jeep/vehicle yesterday but I will let him fill you in, Be proud Lev most young adults these days don't buy there first vehicle without a loan, help from their parents, or by working their behinds off. Good show and well researched decision

Gas, oil wind turbines are getting real big around here. There is lots of work if you look. Go to www.workintexas.com and register its free and if you can't find a job its because your lazy and not trying not because they don't exist.

Whats that supposed to mean? That wasn't a personal attack. I'm saying there are jobs everywhere in lots of cities and towns in Texas that pay rather well. I you can not find a job your, not looking hard enough, deep down you really don't want a job or you're just lazy. If you have a medical or mental problem its a different story. Some money is better than no money so saying there is no work to be had is a BS statement. So if you would rather tell people there are no jobs here then you are wrong. I have less than 2 months to find a job since I'm getting out of the military. I have turned in countless resumes and applications to companies that all pay extremely well and I have know college and should not have any problems getting a job. And with his experience doing gov't travel can open a lot of doors to lots of good places.

I'm searching my past posts but I cannot see where I ever said there were no jobs here. For MY FIELD of expertise, there are none. As for outside of my field, sure there are some, but they aren't hiring young white women. Your sweeping generalizations are cute though.

Not defending Mike's knee jerk reaction from a very passionate point of view, but this was also a sweeping generalization.

Chris is looking for some info and unless you specifically name your field and that there's nothing in that, then it sounds as though you're saying there are no jobs there period, which was exactly what I assumed when I read your post.

While I'm not going to get into the debate here, I will say that if and when I move I'm sure I'll find something. I am a very hostile interview-ee and including the job I have now I can get a job advertised for someone with a degree. It's all in how bad you want it..sometimes. I've learned some employers aren't really looking for skill or experience, just a degree. No offense college folks. The real world management I provide has been learned over many years in the field dealing with people. Something you just can't get in books. I'm sure if I ever complete a degree I can demand more money, but we'll see. Of course, I don't think this has anything to do with what you guys were talking about, just some general rambling by me.
Thanks for the input though. I may not get exactly what I want at first, but I know I wont have to settle with just anything.

So are you going to do it? Just pick up and move? That is so cool honestly. I find it just amazing to watch someone do that. I hate California, but I'm settled and secure... I should move.

Oh, I really don't know. I have issues to deal with here and that will be the kicker. Won't happen before July. I won't be looking at just Dallas either. Dallas area, Ft Worth area, Weatherford/Mineral wells, and Austin. We'll see.
On another note Tiny, how's my prize coming? Just thinking of a hot, yellow wf mug of chai...mmmmm

Since you are a Military guy, I notice today that General Dynamics is having a Job Fair. They must be hiring.

We also have Raytheon, TI, Perot, Haliburton, and several other places which Military Guys would have an advantage with getting a job. Get one their websites...

I was born and raised in Dallas (4th generation) but moved to the Fort Worth area about 15 years ago, wow, what a change! Even though, I would move back to Dallas before going out of state!
