Something a little creepy . . . .

After almost 12 years in LE, I did something new today. It's not about what I did, but where I did it.

No, nothing like that . . . . . get your mind out of the gutter.

I had to do a building search, and it kinda creeped me out. It was in a meat packing plant. It was weird. There were supposed to be two guys breaking in, and the owner asked us (me and my partner) to clear it.

We go in, and it's dark as hell. No idea where the light switch is, so we do the old flashlight thing. There are carcasses of dead cows and pig hanging everywhere. It was a scene right out of a horror flick. I could care less about the dead critters - I'm sure they'll be great next to the mashed potatoes. It was just a creepy vibe in such a big place with the smells and the scenery. I was waiting for Freddy or Jason to freaking appear out of nowhere.

Looks like whoever tried to break in didn't actually make entry - but it was still something different to cross of the weird shit list for my career.

Did you check close? Are you sure they were just pigs and cows? Just saying... those hooks can hold just about anything.

Gotta say - if I'da found a person hanging on one of them hooks in there, I'd have likely peed myself, sat down, and screamed like a girl (not you Tiny - like the rest of them). Seen plenty of dead people. It doesn't bother me. That woulda been too much. I'd go be a window washer or something.

It would be a great place for a practical joke - on someone else.

Hmmmm. . . . .

I only had to ever clear one building, never found a sign of entry or suspects, but it was REALLY creepy so I can only IMAGINE how that would have been.

Mmmmm...Steak. I wish we had a place like that in my town. We always play a joke on the rookies when they get off training. The possibilities are endless!!!

I would say trying to scare someone while doing a clearing would prob end up bad especially rookies who probably already have half the trigger pull squeezed
off. But I agree that would be a creepy place BUT!! almost as creepy as when my partner and I had to clear a funeral home now you wanna talk about the hairs on the back of your neck standing up (especially while downstairs)
Oh and SPDSNYPR did your agency ever get your weapon mounted lights?

One can only immagine what that search must have been like. Best I ever had was a deserted furniture factory building. Big black cavern. Guy broke out the back door in a sprint. I racked the 870 and he froze in mid air like a cartoon.

Last I heard the budget request for the TLR-1 and holsters was tentatively approved. However, now someone (up top) is screaming for the lights to have lasers (the TLR-2). So right now, who knows. I have one (I did the T&E and put in the request), and most of the guys I know carry some sort of light anyway. I think I have a pic of the holster and gun/light combo somewhere. I'll post it.

holster:

whoa SPD that looks almost exactly like my duty belt except I have the fobus double mag holder. oh and I have the ITI SSL-1 light with same holster but without the ALS . Most of our guys/gals have found that the laser did not help any with their point and shoot and actually did better by standard aiming by sights but i'm sure there are some who swear by them (lasers). good luck either way.

Never thought of that. Maybe they were going to sell them on some street corner.

I figure if they are willing to haul a few hundred pounds of dead critter out - they might deserve it.

Seems like there are more profitable things out there to steal that are easier to carry.

A lazer on a pistol is great fun. A female officer from the local college PD had one on her gun and showed up at a high risk stop of a GTA. I got to watch her laser dot bounce all over the place. It supplied us with weeks of funny material. If you can't hold you gun without shaking, the laser will rat you out and everyone will know. Seriously, I like my TL1 light for building searches, but I think the laser is a waste of money.

I recall a study I read that showed the laser really made for slower reaction times. It would make you draw, activate the laser , then look to make sure you are on target, then fire. That extra step makes a huge diffrence. I just put the tritum nightsights on my 4006 and they work great.
