Son joining the Army

My son signed papers to enlisted in the Army today. The men in my family have served in the Army for the last 3 generations and my boy has been talking about becoming a soldier since he was 5, so it shouldn't have been a shock. However, they grow up way too fast... He graduates in June and then goes straight off to basic training.

I'm headed in the same direction. In June, I will have been graduated for 2 years and I haven't been able to get ahead in life.

I'm going to use the signing bonus to get out of debt and buy an '06 LJ. Its about time I treated myself to something nice.

Ditto to what JC said. I have never told my story on this forum, but I tried numerous times to join the Army and could not get past my medical. I wish them the best. I believe it is teh duty of every man to serve his country in some capacity.

I am even trying to simply join th CAP since I cant enlist in the military.

Thanks guys. I'm proud of him too. He started school early and will graduate in June as a 17 year old. He convinced me to sign for him. At first he wanted to be Infantry (like I was). A friend talked him into being an interogator for military intelligence. I figure learning a second language like Arabic should give him a useful job skill when he gets out.

Like one of my favorite bumper stickers says: If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a Soldier!

God bless the men and women that serve. God bless the families that they leave behind that support them. They are always in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you thank you thank you to all who serve!

x2. I have always felt the same way, and every friend I have (guys) are USMC, with the exception of 2 that are army and navy. I also could never get past my medical, tried 3 times Still get sick to my stomache thinking about it, but I guess theres nothing you can do

Been there, done that. It can either really give a young man "direction" that helps him, or screw him up royally!! (Vietnam era Vet)

See if he'll let you play with his Wrangler while he's away (lol)

Best wishes to him ..
