Lightbulb Staying "On Topic"

Staying “On Topic”

I know what you’re thinking when reading the title. And yes, I’m just as guilty as the next guy when it comes to staying on topic. However, I just want to point that we are not doing the future forum members, current forum members, administrators or moderators and favors when you get off the original topic of someone’s thread.

Here are a couple of thoughts on my reasoning:

1. It’s just rude to do it. When someone starts a thread to ask about “ABC part numbers” and 3 pages later we’re talking about Honda Forums it’s just not fair to the original poster.

2. It makes future research harder. We have to remember that all of our posts are archived for future reference. When someone does a search for “Rattle in the dash” we don’t want them to pull up a thread that has been completely trashing by us having fun.

I like hanging out here more than anything and I’d like to see this forum grow. I just believe the best thing we can do to ensure the growth of Wrangler Forum is to keep Off Topic to Off Topic. In Off Topic we’re all there to have fun. If a thread goes in 20 different directions – well, that’s why it’s Off Topic!

One last thing – I know what you’re saying – I’m just as guilty as everyone else when it comes to this. But I promise I’ll keep the original post in mind when I’m replying to a thread.

Off my soap box now,

Simple Scout

PS - If I overstepped my bounds please let me know...

Yeah, You overstepped your bounds. Now us Mods are going to change your sig and put more dumb pictures on your profile. We'll show you who the real Sheriff's are.

And don't worry we will also hold you to your mantra above.

OOH OOH! Maybe we could create an "ON TOPIC" section, and if you go off topic, your computer would call you derogatory names and zap you with 110volts. Same thin for any spelling 'misteaks'. Now that sounds fun. Oh, and if you get zapped, you're banned from that section for a day, and if you're real bad, you get............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........what was I thinking about? Oh yeah, a spanking. Nah, (flips off w/ pinky finger[the feather]) you guys get the feather 'cuz you're not worth the bird.

You been drinkin', 04moneypit? You're silly tonight.

Ok, back on topic. I'll do my best to curb my natural propensity toward flightiness.

No, no, that last part was part of a beatles song. I just didn't like being the guy that gives the straight answers tonight. I'm just f****in' off. Having a good time as it were. I'm allowed to be giddy, aren't I. Like Michael Jackson at an all boys school? Or was that in bad taste? I dunno, maybe I should just stay "ON TOPIC", nah I'll pass. On with the tomfoolery, and shenanigans, if you don't watch out I'll put a whoopee cushion under your chair.

No, it was just a joke. Geez, you take everything so serious, lol. Wait, am I off topic? Now I'm confused. Sorry scout, didn't mean to steal your thread (actually I did, but I needed to apologize before continuing my tomfoolery).

But isn't the topic at hand whatever topic is above you when the conversation shifts to a new topic therefore you really are staying on some topic whether it be the topic that was started by the original poster or not?

All kidding aside, you're right, Scout. It is hard to find info if you have to wade through all of the silliness. Sometimes we just need a good kick in the rear to remind us. Good job, Sheriff!

MR.CLIFFORD, that garmin commercial is great.

Maybe there's just an old sock or a sandwhich stuck under your seats that you are smelling? You did say you have boys didn't you?

That's the point. Just think of how many other threads we have hijacked when a member really needed our help. Like I said, I'm just as guilty as anyone else here. I just want to make a point that we need to make an effort to keep ourselves in check and keep the original poster in mind when we're having our fun. There's a time and a place for it.

We've been really inconsiderate lately of our fellow forum members and I felt like I needed to be the one to try and set an example for everyone else. Let's just try our best to still have fun with the forum but keep everyone elses best interest in mind.
