As for shooting the kid, I don't know. When I was a boy scout back in the day, his dad was a troop leader. His dad was an army vet, and pretty strict.

Within the past Couple of months, a guy wouldn't put down a shotgun he was pointing at the officer. After a few verbal commands, the guy not dropping the gun, the officer popped him 4 times in the chest. The cop was from our local PD. I told my dad, an ex marine, about that when it happened and he goes, "That's why I'm not a cop. If I shot a man holding a gun in Beirut, no one asked me any questions." The cops have to go through a ton of paper work, physciatric evaluation, and then a leave from work....for just defending himself and people around him.

That's why it's a bunch of BS... not because the cops refused to shoot the kid in the dump truck, but the fact that our society has gotten to the point where cops can't shoot someone threatening the lives of everyone on the road with him because he's not actually carrying a weapon and because they don't want to endanger any bystanders. But it's perfectly okay for him to plow through vehicles and possibly run over numerous pedestrians since he doesn't actually have a gun.

I bet some of those innocent people rammed by the truck wished he would have been stopped sooner...I know multiple people who now have permanent back problems because they were rear-ended while stopped by a vehicle traveling the speed limit who never saw the red light. One of them is a police officer who was rear-ended while on a routine traffic stop by someone doing approx 60 mph that just wasn't paying attention. For people who obtain injuries like that in police chase situations, simply stopping the person behind the wheel as quickly as possible once they start ramming vehicles showing they are NOT going to stop until forced to...would be the best course of action. I agree if the cop cannot get a shot off without a significant risk to bystanders, he should hold off...but they should be able to take the shots when the risk is minimal. When someone is using a vehicle a weapon...they should consider him armed and dangerous and treat him as if he's shooting at people.

My $.02.

On a lighter note...

This is the second instance of police chases I've seen in Ohio using large trucks...one was a semi and then this one. I think police departments should keep a large dump truck or some kind of super heavy armored vehicle on duty specifically for this...with a heavily modified engine for quick acceleration though. That way when they get someone in a chase using a large vehicle like that that their squad cars can't stop, they can bring the truck in and push it off the road or just force it to a stop.

You know, if the police would just shoot a couple of rounds through the windshield it would most likely be enough of a warning for the punk to stop what he is doing. But then again, the police would be out of line by doing that. So as all mentioned above, our society has created a police force of helpless cops.

Local cop moonlighting as security guy breaks up a store robbery. The guy runs out the store and security guy just misses tackling him in parking lot . Security guy then pulls out gun and shoots the thief. Security guy is looking at a possible 8 years in prison. Thief got a plea deal and will testify against cop. Oh did I say thief had a 20 year arrest record for thefts, drugs and molesting a 3 year old child?

That's terrible. Makes me very frustrated. Although, does someone deserve to be shot for that? I don't know, it's a very grey area. I know the cop doesn't deserve that though.

Or we can build an underwater city where all the smart people can go. Then we can develop new amazing chemicals and inventions. We'll call it ... Rapture!
