Well, my units mission was to move into blocking positions at the Fulda Gap and attemps to hold them back until we were reinforced. Even with our tactical nukes we wouldn't have lasted more than a few hours. I think they could have taken Germany before the allies could do anything about it. Of course, the cold war still rages on, just not in the public eye.

hmm im not an expert, but it seemed to me that, by the 80's/gorbechev they had no way of doing anything like this, the country was already falling apart, actually most of the cold war was just a really good bluff by the soviets, we estimated there nuclear arsenal to be the same size as ours or a little bigger, when in fact all they had was 27% (IIRC) of what we had...... i just had my history final on friday, any other day of the year and i would have no idea what i was talking about

and BTW a suprise 4ya is I keep bees,

Bee keeping is something I've been looking into for a few years. I think it'd be a great hobby.

please don´t believe everything your government tells you.

in the early 80s the USSR had more nuke weapons than all other countries. that´s why the UN gave them so many $$$ camouflaged as help for their country and economy.
only after that they signed a disarmament contract.

but that doesn´t belong to this place...

I agree. I was at Ft Sill Oklahoma when we started destroying our Pershing 2 missles. We locked the entire base down so the Russian military observers could watch the destruction take place. I knew guys who went as security to see them. They would have gone to war to take control of the oil and anything else they needed to build there war machine. Their economy would not have stopped them from attacking, I believe it would have spurred them on.

Among many other hobbies, I collect first edition books, many of them signed by their authors. My library is taking over my parent's house. As soon as I decide that I've had enough of the military, I'll have to build a house to fit the library!!
