Survivorman or Man Vs. Wild

Might be a repost but...

Anyone watch these shows? Both are programs on "The Discovery Channel" Both are survival shows.

Survivorman = Les Stroud

Man vs. Wild = Bear Grylls

Which one is better ie. more realistic?
Up until the last episode I myself would have to say Survivorman is better. My problem is he seems to be taking more and more survival gear with him.

Wat say MFOT? GO!

BTW wait for the poll

I like Bear Gryllis better. He's got a helluva background to back up what he talks about.

I do like however how Les Stroud goes out completely by himself supposedly.

Quote:
American survival consultant Mark Weinert, who was recruited by Diverse Productions, told the paper Grylls claimed to be stranded on a desert island on one occasion.

Channel 4 statement
However, he was actually in Hawaii and spent some of his time there in a motel, Mr Weinert alleged.

Another time, he added, Grylls was filmed building a raft by himself, whereas the crew had actually put it together and dismantled it beforehand, to ensure that it worked.

And in a further episode, supposedly "wild" horses rounded up by Grylls had come from a local trekking facility, he claimed.

i was wondering the same thing. i read that over on an eclipse forum. suprised the hell outa me...staying in resorts at night, and he didnt even build his own log raft...had the survival specialist do it for him, then he took it apart, and was recorded putting it together. i lost all respect for the show and bear when i saw that..

les is definitely the best

Hell I just saw one with Stroud in the swamps of Georgia where he built two rafts himself and neither of them would float with him on them. He still had to walk thru the water dragging the thing.

Edit: No worries Noise.

Bear definatly has a camera crew along with him. He does often get filmed talking to what appears to be someone ie. a crew member.

Les supposedly is alone and films himself. Can't say for sure its true but there is quite a bit of footage of him going back to get a camera that was filming him leaving and he is often seen with some sort of rig that sticks out in front of him with a camera on it pointed back at himself that shoots him walking.

Good point. Cept they kept panning to shots of gators in those waters and you wouldn't have caught this big ol white boy loafin around in there. Walking "on" water comes to my mind.

also, i always wondered how the hell his camera crew followed him. like up and down all those rock faces, across raging rivers, and just things no one could do with all that equipment...i mean, i doubt the camera crew are as good of climbers as bear is, without all that equipment.

i figure the crew must have something that helps them get places, like helis and boats..lol

Les Stroud FTW! Goes out all by himself. That alone is the reason he is better.

Man v Wild is my show......never watched the other one. I like Bear and if I remember correctly, he states he'll show you how to "survive" (with his flint & water botttle ) After wrapping himself in a freshly removed deer hide, I won't begrudge him a hotel room.

Yeah, Bear does do some crazy stuff, but I don't like all the hyped up crap they do on his show.

Les is more laid back and my style.

Survivorman, Les Stroud, He gives good info that may well save your life in a survival situation.
Man vs. Wild, Bear Grylls, gives you information that will get you killed in a survival situation. his crap is staged. his scenarios are poorly thought out and if you follow his advice in the wild you will die.
I grew up in the woods, 10 year old kids where I grew up would run screaming from that raving lunatic.

survivorman all the way. yea. man vs wild is kinda cool;. but that whole scandal thing with the hotels and junk kinda threw me off. although in his defense, (this is not my arguement, but something i heard a friend of mine say, just thought i'd throw it out there) the point of the show is not for the man to go out survive in the wild tempting death. its to show us what to do if we get caught in that situation. and he does show us what to do in that situation. he doesnt have to show us how to sleep, we already know how to do that, so he goes to a hotel and does it

i have to go with Bear. the last episode of Survivorman Les made his shelter using one of his camera tripods and video tape. NOT REALISTIC!!!!! who has that stuff with them in the wild. Bear has the creds and who cares what someone "allegedly" said he did. Les may go out by himself but deos not give as good of tips as Bear.

So you would run wildly in the middle of the night if you heard what you thought was a bear prowling around your camp? Wild animals instinctively chase anything that runs.
Would you jump off a cliff into a river with an unknown depth to get down that cliff rather than take the time to find a way around?
Would you squeeze liquid from elephant shit? feces from any animal is full of bacteria that can cause death and at least will cause diarrhea and or vomiting which will leach far more fluids than you gain from drinking shit.
Would you eat supposedly rotting flesh without cooking it first? that will also cause diarrhea and or vomiting which will kill you by dehydration faster than starving.
The man gives bad info that will get somebody killed if they trust it.

Servivorman is da man, IMO. From a common sense POV, Les' tips will help you more.

I'd been saying Man vs Wild was fake since it first came out.
I saw the show with Bear trying to catch a supposedly wild horse. He made a rope out of willow(?) branches, offered some grass to the "wild" horse, wrapped the rope around it's neck and tried to jump on. The horse moved away from him a few feet (he fell off) and went back to grazing. A wild horse wouldn't have let him get close enough to put his arms around it's neck, let alone stand still for him to try to climb on it's back. If he did manage to get that close, a wild horse wouldn't have gone back to grazing only a few feet from a predator that had just tried to jump it.

I saw the elephant dung show too. It was so obviously a sponge they tried to make look like dung, it's not funny.

I've notice several other goof ups in his shows, so have very little faith in anything Bear Grylls says. I do think his show is entertaining, along the lines of McGyver or Gilligan's Island.

How else is it gonna get filmed without have a big camera crew fallowing you around and eating in front of you? Plus, dragging all that extra camera stuff around just adds to the challenge.
