Talking with the wife

So while we were driving around today I was explaining to her how I felt about the jk and jku jeeps "to car like for me" and how it seems like SOME people have bought one to look cool and have no idea about jeeps and at that time we passed a jku and I said to her. Watch I bet this person won't even wave. And of course he didn't. Well I then said see people around here ( ft Wayne in ) in jks never wave and my wife then asked DOES JK STAND FOR JUST KIDDING JEEP? lmao yes babe yes it does

Is it all in good fun that people hate on JKs, or should I start getting unhappy now?

Jeepers who own JKs are cool. But, there are a lot of nonJeepers who own JKs and JKUs. That's why us guys who own older ones give them a bad wrap. I'm sure the same thing happened when my YJ came out. "That thing's not a real Jeep because of _______!"

If you are comfortable in your own Jeepness, then you are fine. And always waving helps distinguish the JKs and JKUs who are Jeepers and those who are not.

I always wave, and I get really bummed when the older-model Jeepers don't wave back. :-/

That happens too. I heard someone on this board say one time that they wave at the Jeep, not the person. Jeeps can't help who buys them.

I own a JKU now and I love it, prior to that I had a 79 CJ5 with 304 V8 and a 84 CJ7 with 258 straight 6. Now I have a 11 JKU so don't judge the JK crowd because of a wave. When I drive the CJ other Jeeps still don't wave, everybody is to busy doing other stuff to pay attention to driving.

Another Fort Wayne person---who has both TJ and JK.

I get lots of waves in LIL RED but RARELY do people in this area wave at BLU.

Understand it is "BONE STOCK" but really? When the TJ was new it didn't matter. Most people don't wave at the JK 'cept other JKs.

My SO (who drives BLU) understands, waves and understands people don't expect her too wave---laughs when she "catches" them lookin' and she is waving in a JK at "our age"

Not to turn this into another "wave thread" but I got 5/6 wrangler waves today, and the only 1 that didn't wave was 2 women and their dog... wonder why they didn't wave? I'm a girl.... they weren't even in a JK

So for those of us that wanted a "new 2012" Wrangler, what do you propose we do? All I could find at the dealers were JK's. So I bought one, and by the way I do wave.

That's the problem. Anyone who wants to buy a brand new Jeep Wrangler is only going to find a JK. That's just the current generation of Wrangler. I would've purchased a different model but I wanted a relatively new vehicle.

I think its all about the timing. My buddy had a YJ new in 93 and in 97 we were both like "round headlights, coil springs? seriously Jeep, come on??" Now were are like "Hell yea round headlights again and coil springs"

And in todays age I am like "power windows and heated seats, steering wheel radio controls? seriously Jeep, come on?? I due time I am sure I will be like "Hell yea power windows and heated seats, steering wheel radio controls!"

It has taken a bit to get used to the front fenders, since it is the first deviation from metal, but I am getting there. Maybe when I can afford one!

i agree that every time i pass a JK they never even look or wave, only the TJ's, YJ,s and CJ's ever wave back.....just food for thought when i drive my other jeep, alot of Jeep owners(clearly not diehard Jeep fans) ask "what is that?" ...i in form them that it is an original Jeep (48 CJ2A-all original) they reply that they didnt know jeeps were made back then....oh well what are you going to do....before it is said, yes i know that Jeep actually started way earlier with the BANTAM Jeep....

I give Jk owners sheit because its a new Jeep. Kinda like a SR. or JR. pickin on a freshman or Sophomore. It's all in good fun. If a JK waves at me I wave back and smile because I know that Jeep get a good home.

I have opinions, too.
Like how many Jeep owners are just too cool for the rest of us. How they just can't accept anything new as being equal to or greater than something old. How they must constantly justify their purchase or choices in life by belittling the purchases or choices of others. It's not even a matter of taste to many of those people, it's just blind, arrogant stupidity.
But that's just my opinion......

BTW: I own a JK, and I wave at every, single Wrangler I see. So it would seem not all JK owners don't wave, for the one millionth time. You know who doesn't wave a lot from my experience? Owners of modified, trailer-queen looking rigs.

These threads always make me laugh.

Some people just don't like change, but don't realize how foolish they sound when they're pounding on the "don't make 'em like they used to" table.

I've said it before...unless you're driving a 3 speed, 4 cylinder Jeep that landed on D-Day in 1944, you're not driving a "real" Jeep.

Get over it. All vehicle manufacturers evolve their models over time. The vast majority of the time, it is for the better.

The JK/JKU is a bigger, more stable, nicer riding platform than previous generations of Jeeps. It's not perfect, and I'm sure it's not for everyone.

I love how much nicer my JKU drives than my old TJ. There is nothing about that leaky, noisy bucket of plastic that is better than my JKU, in my opinion. And I wave to any Jeep I pass on the road.

i agree that my tj is a whole lot faster and smoother than my 48, but i just feel that newer jeeps are getting lost to the modern age of everything being push button, heated seats, darn near drive themselves vehicles. maybe i am just old skool and like one of the sayings of JEEP.

Better a JK or JKU than a Hummer!

By the way, klkb, I wouldn't wave at you either!

I know, right? I'll just keep doing my thing, waving at everyone!

Even the mailman waved at me today! I can't get a snooty old-timer to wave, but that mailman in a Jeep will!
