Taxing the good ol' cancer stick...

So out of curiousity, how much are cigarettes going for where you live?
NY state just hit smokers with another nasty tax increase at the beginning of July. On long Island they are roughly $10...in new york city about 11 or 12 per pack now....per pack!
Thank god I quit years ago.

You have to check out the new electric cigarettes they have that help you quit....my buddy has been using one for a couple weeks now, he said it really is heing him. He hasn't had a real cig since he bought it.
I took a pull of it and it felt exactly like real cigarette.

the packs are about $7.50 in MA. In NH they are about $5. I was in an Irving yesterday shooting the breeze with a trucker from KY. We were both buying dip and it was $7. He told me where he's from, its $1.50 tops. I need to move from Taxachusetts.

P.S. Where in Long Island are you from KBR?

I think its absolutely wrong to be able to implement a tax this high. Smoking is not illegal so everyone has a right to do what they please. If they wanna smoke..so be it. And smoking is one of the hardest addictions to kick and the state of new york is literally draining smokers pockets because they know people will still buy.

New York cigarette party?...start throwing cartons of cigarettes into the hudson river...

Holy cow i wish it was that cheap here, between $9.50-$13.00 a pack. It's been like that for about 2yrs now. If you want cigars like colts $13.50-$15.00 and honest to god they just totally OUTLAWED those flavored cigarellos like PrimeTime,Captain Black etc. If you want them you have to go to a different province.A carton of smokes is about $85 +-.

Be careful, there's reports coming out about how some e-cigs have toxic chemicals in them.

i would agree with the tax only if it was going towards lowing our healthcare rates, because the more sick people = the higher our rates. we know that patterson is just trying to balance his eyeballs... i meant budget.

i'm pissed he raised my college tuition... and the money doesn't go back to the school, it goes to the state.

if we didn't have this bullish*t, nanny state government that thinks it has to protect you from yourself..you wouldn't have to worry about healthcare costs, or the price of tobacco

very true... but it's the government - whose in control here?

I need someone to tell me why it took months to fix the oil spill because it is incomprehendable to me that we can send robots into outer space but can't fix something close to home without ruining the lives of southern folk who make a living out of the gulf.

I know it is a bit off topic but I'm sure everyone shares the same frustration with our 'leaders'

I can't really answer that question. It seems to me that the Obama administration is meddling in everything that they shouldn't be and ignoring the things the federal government should be taking care of. They have it all backwards. Now I was never really a big fan of George Bush, but the Liberals and Democrats are pretty quick to jump on him about the lack of response with that hurricane. But in my opinion this oil spill disaster was handled the exact same way.

This is the kind of crap that p*sses me off with politics. All politicians ever do is point the finger, spread the blame, and then turn around and do the exact same thing.

You go right ahead man. I got 1 running around in the backyard that I see every couple of days. I think he's the 1 eating my tomato plants and dug a hole under my back porch. That oversized rat is going to get it if I ever bust it red handed.

#3 to $5 a pack around here (Charleston, SC). I'm as anti-smoking as you can get so I could care or less how high they tax them. But, I do feel the revenue from those taxes be used to for anti-smoking programs that help folks quit. I have never smoked and no longer drink (blew many paychecks on booze in my early Army years) so I wouldn't even be bothered seeing tobacco and alcohol banned. But that's just my opinion....to each his own. I live in a family of smokers who have all tried to quit at one time or another with no luck.
