Telemarketers calling your house too much? Time to block them!!!
Hello all I just like many others have problems with telemarketers calling my house phone # few "hundred" times a day. I just found out about this website today which removes your phone # from telemarketers list. Its www.donotcall.gov I should be completely free. I'm not advertizing the website i'm just trying to help people out.
The do not call list only works if they are an upstanding firm. Way too many real estate companies and your own bank, etc. still calling. Not to mention, non-profits are exempt from the list= they get to call anyway.
If you've conducted business with a company within the last 90 days then the Do Not Call list doesn't work. The Gov assumes you have an open interest with that company. That's why you still get calls from your credit card companies, auto dealerships etc. Everytime you make contact (including paying a bill) with that company then the 90 renews and so on. That's why you still get some calls. If you do get a call from a company that you've never had contact with then they're in violation. In other words, they've figured out the "gray area".

I just hang up or I'll tell them to hold on "and I'll get her" and I just leave them on hold. If I'm in a good mood and I have the time, I will interupt them and try to sell them something. Like maybe the 258 block in my bathtub that I don't need anymore.

The best time I had was when I strung one of these phone sales people along for about 10 minutes or so. I guess she was tired of people not talking to her that she was trying real hard. After each paragraph of her sales pitch, I guess she was supposed to get a "yes" or "no" before she continued. I kept giving non-comittal grunts that could have been taken either way, I never gave her an actual yes or no. Finally in the end she asked me to confirm my address for her, I gave her the universal sound for "I don't know" (you know the sound that teenagers use, no consonants). I got her so mad at me that she yelled at me and hung up on me, imagine that.
Must've wasted precious company phone minutes on that one.
Try it some time, after a few beers. Just remember to never give a definate yes or no. The smarter or less desperate ones will figure it out quickly and hang up.
I'm not gonna go over that......
