Thank a vet, Veterans Day 2008

Just a reminder to all that tomorrow is Veteran's Day.

No matter what side you were on in the recent election or what your own particular political views may be, please remember that the freedom that we all enjoy is because of those who have served our country. All too often we, myself included, take our freedom for granted.

I grew up in the military, my father is a retired Master Chief that served for 29 years. My brother is active duty Navy. I have an uncle that is a Vietnam vet, his son ships out next month to Iraq. I tried to join the Navy out of high school but was disqualified for medical reasons. The first 15 years of my life my father was gone half the time on deployment. Even in peacetime the men and women of our armed forces and their families sacrifice so that we may continue to enjoy the freedom that makes this country great.

And many have paid the ultimate price for that freedom. Since the revolutionary war, 653,708 have died in combat for us and another 1.4 million have been wounded. There are currently 165,000 troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, 3,776 have been killed in action and 21,649 wounded.

It is not my intent in posting this to start a debate on anything. Whether you agree or disagree with anything I have said does not matter. Just take some time tomorrow and thank a veteran that you have the choice to agree or disagree with anything.

I will start thanking people right now by saying thank you to ccain and any other veteran here.

are you familiar with the iconic WWII poster:

rumor has it that they acutally found out the woman in this picture, she is 90 now, and she will be leading the parade in NYC tomorrow.

Distorted, they didn't give you a 4-day? The Army dumped a 4-day in our lap this weekend. It's been great. I'm driving a topless Jeep tomorrow in our local parade.....unfortunately it's supposed to rain and possibly sleet, so we'll see how much fun that turns out to be.....

Thanks to all vets, even you distorted. I'm sure whatever you do is much more important than a day off.

Good ole Ft. Meade here decided it would be more fun for us to work yesterday and then have today off. Not sure what genius thought that up but at least I had the day off today.
