The Lifeguard at the Sea of Stupidity.

Ever feel that way? Boy, I sure do. After wasting an hour of my life, it has become painfully apparent that our local automotive stores hire the truly gifted. You know the type. Sloped foreheads and wide set eyes. They communicate by using a series of grunts and clicks.

In this so called Mecca of Custom Autos known as SoCal, one would think that items as simple as an Engine Hoist and Engine Stand would be readily available. But no... Pep-Tards sell the stand and Cracken had the hoist. So I stare blindly at the guy behind the counter at Cracken wondering which eye I'm supposed to look into as he explains to me that he can not sell me the hoist. WTF? I have cash, you have the hoist, whats the problem?

Well, it doesn't ring up right he said. It's supposed to be $169 but it rings up over $500. For 500 bucks that f$#&in' thing had better come with a NASCAR pit crew to pull the engine for me!

I still fail to see an issue because they have it advertised on the floor for $169. Well, he proceeds to tell me (and I still can't figure out which goddam eye I'm supposed to look into) I don't have the authority to over-ride a price that high.

Hmmm, is it that you don't have the authority or the know-how to over-ride the price? So, he tells me to come back tomorrow. HA, by then the price will have been adjusted and the circus freak behind the counter will deny any knowledge of me being in the store the day before. I mean COME ON, I worked in a parts store for over twelve years and we HAD to sell parts for their advertised price even if we forgot to take the sale labels off and the sale had ended. And at my store there was ALWAYS a manager on site to take care of such issues. So here I set, NOT pulling the engine out of the Fairlane and wasting more of my life on the interwebz.

I think I'll go out in the garage, flip the freakin' car over, unbolt the engine and let it flop out on the floor!

What, you don't have rafters and a buttload of rope?

I got a hoist and stand at Harbor freight that have worked fine for years.

I feel this way about all the chrysler dealers i have taken my jeep to since i have bought it. I bought it with zero miles, and have had every problem with it, including having to be repainted. They have replaced everything, including the engine, trans, paint, the rear diff (three times) plus..(within 1 yr). Know it is starting all over again. What a PieceOShit. If you look at it, it is the same as the Neon/PT Cruiser interior. Add the 4 wheel drive that is incapable of offroading without mods. $41k invested in crap. I have owned several other jeeps, but they were cjs. no problems. Want to buy mine??? Paid For. 10k...POS

Skeeter, don't you dare answer that question or I'll ban you myself! This is a family-friendly forum.

Call the manager tomorrow and let him know how you feel

I went to get my tires checked... my alignment was off... the smart guy behind the counter just said I was taking too many right turns.
I can't make this stuff up.

Note quite. I fell short of the whole "remote" thing!

That poor guys used to be a crew chief for Darrell Waltrip. Probably wanted to adjust your wedge and tire pressure too. It's a part time gig. Hey times are tight for every one.

Definition of buttload, assload, and shitload......

buttload - lowest of the mega-loads
assload - middle of the road for mega-loads
shitload - the big daddy of mega-loads

Therefore, if you have an assload of items, you've got more than a buttload, but not quite enough to qualify as a shitload. If you've got a buttload of items, you don't quite have enough for an assload.

Which brings me to the term SHIT TON.........

This is the mega-load that even shitload prays to at night for guidance in a hectic world.

Now you know.......................and knowing's half the battle.

that is actually a relative measurement, like a "pinch" or "dollop." the size of the butt dictates the size of said "buttload."

, but i'll get back to topic. that is the problem with dealing with corporate business. the employees no longer have control over anything that happens in the store. they need to get a manager to override the system (usually needing some kind of password or code and then there is yet another set of "procedures" that need to be followed. often times a manager that is able to do this is not readily available. either the manager is on break or doing something else and doesn't care. all the job is, to that employee or manager, is a paycheck. there is no sense of pride in what they do and they don't really care who you are or what you want. i was at the local grocery store Monday, at 9:00 the girl that was bagging looked her watch and then looked at my hubby and said, "sorry'" and walked away and clocked out. IN THE MIDDLE OF BAGGING!! it drives me nuts to do business with places that operate that way. i am, and i try to only deal with, small businesses. i can negotiate prices with you; work out payment plans with you if you need something but can afford a lump sum payment; if i have a price advertised I can adjust it in the computer, regardless of whether it is $5 or $50,000. i have a lot of pride in what i do, as do most small businesses around here. anyway, the moral or my rant is that the parts chain only cares about the all mighty dollar, and they assume that if you get pissed and don;t buy it someone else will. :rant off:

Back to the original topic. The "sea of stupidity" extends to the customer as well. When someone comes into the restaurant, orders something that they have never had, and didn't read the menu, then wants it "taken off their ticket" because they DIDN'T LIKE IT, I'm supposed to absorb the cost of the item because this dummy doesn't want to pay for something, that costs me to produce, because of their "taste", I really want to Bi+ch slap them for being an a$$hole.

We've already got it. All the stories of alien abductions and anal probes... They weren't aliens, they were from the government.
