Talking The Merry Christmas Thread!

No "holiday festivals", "holiday programs" or "winter festivals" here. It was good enough to call CHRISTMAS when I was a kid and it's still good enough now.

So, from our home to yours...

Merry Christmas!!!

i don't understand why saying "merry christmas" is so offensive. if you do not celebrate christmas and someone says "merry christmas" to you, deal with it. if someone were to come up to me and say "happy kwanzaa" i wouldn't be offended. political correctness is going waaaay to far. it is not like the person wishing a merry christmas is saying, "merry christmas, lets talk about jesus." idk, maybe my family is just a bunch of jerks, but my dad puts up a CHRISTMAS tree at our store every year and we wish people a merry christmas. and you know what else, just because you don't celebrate christmas does not mean that you can't have a merry christmas. you are still alive on the day of christmas, no? do people who don't celebrate christmas cease to exist that day?

you know what, screw it!

I think the "they're trying to eliminate Christmas" thing is mostly overblown by paranoid religious fanatics.
I don't see it where I'm at and don't hear much of it anymore.
I don't see how it would offend somebody anyway. Most the time when you say the word you're not thinking of Jesus anyway....you're thinking of G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu Grip or whatever's hot nowadays.

Nevertheless Merry Christmas!!!!.

Cain - Nice decorating on Red's head, btw. I got a good laugh out of the fact that you changed your location to Point Place. Red is my role model as a father.

And Merry Christmas to all the WF folks.

I posted this before, felt it was worthy of another round

Twas two weeks before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !

At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.

Choose your words carefully,
choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,
not Happy Holiday !

Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet during the holidays a
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

I am probably the least religious person on this forum, but even I don't care if someone tells me Merry Christmas. If I hear happy holidays, I tend to respond with Merry Giftmas just to see if they are actually paying attention. So to everyone on WF, Merry Giftmas.

Christmas Banned in Massachusetts School
Massachusetts School Bans Christmas Items From “Holiday” Shop

Santa Clause items deemed one step away from Nazi stuff according to one parent.

When a couple of parents suggested, you know…Christmasy items be allowed in the school’s holiday shop, even red and green tissue paper was rejected. No holiday related items to be allowed at the holiday sale!

After meeting with members of the Byam Elementary School PTO, two mothers asking to put the holidays back into the school’s annual holiday gift
shop say Byam isn’t budging.

Kathryn McMillan and Kathleen Cullen, who both have children at Byam, asked school officials to allow all holiday items at the gift shop following a ban on Santa, candy canes, stockings, and all Christmas, Hanukkah and other “religious items.”

But a meeting with some PTO parents on Thursday night grew heated as emotions got in the way.

Red and green tissue paper to wrap presents was also crossed off the list because it looked too “Christmasy,” McMillan said.

“One of the parents said,‘If we allow Santa, what do we say if a child brings in a swastika? Do we allow that too?’” McMillan said.“All I could think of was, are you kidding? You’re comparing a Christmas ornament to a swastika? It seems as if reason is lost somewhere and I just hope we can find it again.”

Let’s see… Santa is is a fictional character who brings joy to children all around the world…. and the swastika represents one of the most evil regimes the world has ever known; one that killed millions of innocent men women and children…

Yeah, sure…I can totally see the confusion, there…..GAH! I am so glad I don’t live in Taxachusetts.

What’s sad is, this type of demented, leftist mindset now infects the highest levels of our government.

School’s ban on Christmas carols sparks debate
New Jersey district may be challenged in court
NEWARK, N.J. - As a Jewish boy growing up in Texas, Joel Schwartzberg performed many traditional Christmas songs in the elementary school choir.

Uncomfortable about singing evangelical versions of songs like “Silent Night,” Schwartzberg kept his lips sealed during those parts. He remembers being told by his teacher that he had to sing all the words if he wanted to participate.

Schwartzberg, whose young children are about to enter school, said those memories surfaced this month when the South Orange-Maplewood school district decided to ban instrumental Christmas carols at school-sponsored holiday concerts.
Story continues below ↓advertisement | your ad here

The move has brought considerable publicity to Maplewood, located about 10 miles west of Newark, and echoes a larger debate over what public religious displays or expressions are acceptable during the Christmas season.

There have been several other publicized disputes in New Jersey towns, including Egg Harbor Township. The school board there voted earlier this month to remove “Silent Night” from an elementary school holiday program after a parent complained, then voted to reinstate the song after the complaint was withdrawn. The program already included songs celebrating Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

There have been lawsuits involving a public holiday display in Cranston, R.I.; a school nativity scene and performance of Christmas carols in Bossier Parish, La.; and a school in Saginaw, Mich., that prohibited a student from passing out candy canes containing religious messages.

'Reasonable person' standard
Courts have used the “reasonable person” standard — essentially, whether a reasonable person would feel a religious display or expression constituted an endorsement of religion. Jared Leland, a lawyer for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in Washington, D.C., said that courts have frequently ruled that recognizing the religious tradition of a particular holiday does not meet that standard.

The Alliance Defense Fund, an Arizona-based organization that funds legal actions in cases involving religious expression, is considering challenging South Orange-Maplewood’s decision in court.

LIVE VOTE
Should Christmas carols be banned at public school events?
“When these school boards start censoring Christ out of the holidays, they’re on the wrong side of the Constitution,” said Gary McCaleb, the group’s senior counsel. “It’s a kind of Orwellian doublespeak, in my mind.”

Jessica Schneider, a 16-year-old who plays in the ensemble band at Columbia High in Maplewood, called the district’s Christmas carol ban “kind of silly.”

“Personally, I don’t know anyone who objected, and as a student who’s part of the school’s Jewish population, I would think I would have,” Schneider said. “To me, it’s just music and it’s giving the community something to be happy about it.”

State and federal laws hold that teaching about religious holidays and practices is acceptable in schools as long as the holidays are not celebrated. Holiday displays are allowed as long as they do not advance religion and are temporary in nature.

Schwartzberg said a line can be drawn.

“When students are compelled to engage in evangelical activities — even without intent or proselytizing — with the alternative being nothing except to sit out, I think that’s not appropriate.”

* Syracuse NY Schools Ban Santa at School
* Post by Jeff Westover. Filed under Christmas in Schools.

Santa Claus can still visit Woodland Elementary School in East Syracuse, N.Y., but only after school hours and not mingling with children in the cafeteria as in the past.

The Post-Standard reports that the East Syracuse-Minoa school system has restricted Santa to after-hours unless he’s connected to a “classroom lesson or activity that’s educational and inclusive of all holiday observances and traditions.”

Patti Puma, who has a fourth-grader at the school, calls Santa a “secular, cultural tradition” and says she is circulating a protest petition to take to the school board next week.

Schools superintendent Donna DeSiato says the new guidelines are designed to ensure the district doesn’t promote one singular tradition.

“We did not ban Santa,” she says. “That is a misunderstanding. We are separating out singular activities that need to be family choices, like having Santa come to school and children telling him what they want for Christmas, from instructional programming.”

She says officials were questioned by someone in the district as to why it promoted a “singular focused activity” involving Santa when schools began planning holiday events.

Woodland PTO president John Caramanna says the group has no position, but he doesn’t understand the controversy.

“Santa isn’t in the Bible, and I don’t see a manger with him in it,” he tells the newspaper. “He’s like a marketing guy; a jolly old guy with a white beard who’s fun for the kids.”

* Orange Country Courthouse Takes Down Christmas Tree
* Post by Jeff Westover. Filed under Bah Humbug, Christmas News, Christmas in Public, Christmas in the Courts.

The removal of a Christmas tree from the Orange County Superior courthouse Monday has prompted a petition among court employees to have the tree – connected to a gift drive for poor children – put back. The six-foot artificial tree, which was adorned with tags seeking toy donations to ‘Operation Santa Claus,’ was removed Monday after a member of the public complained about the tree being in the courthouse, court spokeswoman Gwen Vieau said.

“It’s a public building and we have to serve the diversity of our community,” she said.

The tree had been put up in the courthouse every holiday season for about 20 years, said Orange County Sheriff’s Special Officer Cynthia Guerrero, who runs the courthouse’s ‘Operation Santa Claus’ effort. She was ordered to take down the tree.

Members of the public would come and grab tags – which sought donations for specific children. Last year, the courthouse got 374 presents for the toy drive.

But courthouse employees want the tree back up, and are circulating a petition among courtrooms. As of this afternoon, about 30 people had signed the petition.

“That tree holds the cards that contain the wishes and needs of those less fortunate than we are and shame on those who want to take that away from those of us who wish to give …” the petition says. “Now at the court’s darkest hour, our symbol of hope has been taken away from us.”

Though the tree is gone, the donation opportunity is still available. The courthouse has set up a table in the lobby for individuals who want to sponsor a needy child and provide him/her with a gift for the holidays.
Just a quick google search...

To all my Christian friends, Merry Christmas.

That's all there is to it, how are you going to take that away from kids, I don't care if your Jewish, Muslim, whatever, it's just a fun time for kids. Damn skeeter now you got me all riled up. I'm not even religious, I don't celebrate x-mas for religious purposes I do because it's an American tradition, like baseball. I grew up with my 2 best friends being Jewish and they celebrated Hanukkah and x-mas just because. I'm not saying you have to celebrate x-mas but why do you have to ruin it for everyone else? People really irritate me...

I Only hope we find GOD again before it is too late

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession:
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu ... If people want a crèche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country.. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham 's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina ).. Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... Terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock 's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said okay..

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard it..... No one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,

Ben Stein

* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Treee'*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS , not Happy Holiday !*
Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet during the holidays a MERRY CHRISTMAS
Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
