Nice grocery getter. I like all jeeps. You see all these guys freaking out because they change so much, well, how many of them drive an original Jeep like an old Willy's Mb. Times change.

Yea!! my 500th post!

You're over 500 posts now. Do you want me to delete anything over 500 to keep you there?

Congrats on the milemarker. You are a company man now.

I think the Patriot is a nice family vehicle built around economy. Great gas mileage, comfort, roomy, and it really isn't that expensive. It all depends on what you want to use it for. Would I go offroad with it? Probably not, but it definitely COULD if the need came up.

I like it because it looks like an XJ... but the FWD 4-cyl stuff isn't my cup of tea. It would prolly take some getting used to, but for a first impression I like 'em. Lift it maybe 1"-2" and it would be a nice little city cruiser that could take you camping and out to the dunes.

it's all about the mpg's baby. 26/30

Also the CVT2 transaxle is pretty neat. Reminds me of a snowmobile. They built in simulated shift points so that it was a more familiar feel to the driver, but I wish they hadn't. Woulda been pretty cool.

The 2.4L actually carries it better than I thought it would. It's got variable valve timing so it's always running at optimal levels.

Sorry if that was too much info.

PS
You're right on about the Cherokee. Jeep has even said that it IS in fact their Cherokee replacement and that's the foundation they started with when they designed it.

Oh, I've read all about them on Allpar and a ton of other car sites and have learned quite a bit about them... but its a Jeep, MPG doesn't matter ..... although its more of a city Jeep, so I can see why.

I've driven a new Nissan Maxima with a CTV and no simulated shift points, its very odd but verry cool. Especially watchin that MPH needle clim without stopping!

But my only beef is that its FWD... I don't really care for the feeling a FWD vehicle gives. The Fourbanger is nothing, I love small motors and am a big import fan. If they would have stuck a small 3.0L V6 in there(like the ones in the older Town&Country) and made it RWD, I think it would be an even better little SUV, with more potential!

I've seen the commericals on this Patriot. They do resemble the Cherokee. I've never been fond of a 4 cylinder. What can you tow - fold down camper, snowmobiles, small boat?
Anyone out there own one of these???
