Idk if a machete would go through bone. I could be wrong. Better stop the bleeding quick or He's done for. I love this show!! It makes me constantly aware of my surroundings.

notice how he only tied the leg off with a belt, and it was barely bleeding after being hacked with an ax. lol. they chop zombie heads and limbs off with them and they have bones. Plus its all about velocity when it comes to the force of a cut. the axe broadens out after the first few inches so it has to force the leg apart to cut further. the machete can travel faster aka more force, and less resistance. Who really knows though. i love how ricks just like, lets cut it off! bam. without asking or whatever. hahaha.

I like that lol. and yeah, seriously they are dumb about alot of stuff. I would be using every opportunity to kill them without bullets. The zombies easily walk to the fence, they could have slaughtered them all without shooting them. Then inside, use the guns. why the hell not.

If you watched talking dead, they explained why they used the axe, the machete was used to kill the zombies in that case it had zombie all over it, the axe was for a emergency use only, as said in talking dead...

Thanks for making sense of that I didn't understand why he used the axe either. I'll be surprised if they don't play the baby zombie card in this.

As well as now they have Hershel disabled and he being the only doctor in the group could prove interesting when someone else gets hurt. All in all though a great episode that left you hanging on the edge of your seat.

Well that shouldn't matter if it had guts on it because I thought you only turned if you died? Hell Randall hunts with his crossbow both zombies and his food.

I was thinking about this. If they're all already infected then a zombie bite shouldn't affect you... Unless it ripped your throat out and you bled to death. Then you'd come back as a walker. But if you just got bit. It shouldn't be a big deal right? Cuz you already got the virus.

Well now that I think about it im wrong. Who was it that got bit and didn't die but started turning and they had ti leave him on the side of the road under a tree? I guess using that machete would have killed him

1. Horribly disappointed that nobody ate/smacked/shot/stabbed Lori.
2. I can't remember anyone turning that didn't die first, including Andrea's sister. I think the virus kills them, then they turn.
3. The kid that plays Carl still needs acting lessons.
4. Great start to the season, just hope the keep the soap opera stuff to a minmum.

Its wierd about how it works. I never read the comic, but it seems like they are adding realism there. Us humans enjoy about a 5% immunity rate to just about every virus ever found. So these folks would be carriers, immune to infection (bites I would think fall here), but would be succeptable post mortum to reanimation - as were the cases wih Shane and Randall in season 2. For this to work, the machette wouldve been an acceptable option from the perspective of zombie goo, but not from typical infection. It would always be wise to use the most sterile tool to avoid septic shock, a fatal condition in todays world.

And the funny about that is they never explain mechanism of zombie infection, is it in the water or air, or just bites? If just bites, how did they get it? Likely it was water/airborn, and the bites just led to immidiate infection. That would explain how months of wilderness living without geeks infected them as well.

From a medical point neither would be a good choice for bone. The machette would work better, I would think, at seperating the muscular system from bone, but a bone saw then becomes needed, otherwise you will crush and splinter the bone when struck. If it were clean at the knee/elbow/wrist, etc there would be only tendon muscle and ligament to contend with, i.e. no saw required. I know, getting gross, but pressure on the stump or digital pressure on the femeral arteries (pinch em wih your fingers) will stop the bleeding, but that was just silly how "effective" his leather belt was.

Little Carl sure is gonna try!

Interesting about the inmates. Cant wait till next week. I love this show.

It's like shingles... You have it once exposed to it. So if they die, it activates and they change. If they are bit, it activates (because its a bite from a active dead) they change. (That's how I see it)

Considering how fast blood pumps, I don't see how cutting off a leg would prevent anything. How fast his heart was racing... That bite probably went through his system a time or two.
Personally, I think their resident doc is a dead man walking... Err...limping...

The zombie had already chomped his leg though, and the disease is already in all of them. The only concern is keeping him alive. The amputation was just to keep the bite wound from killing him. I feel like the show contradicts itself sometimes .

Blue ridge you are hitting the same points I was trying to get across.

The bit still turns anyone who's bit. It may take a few days (like the one guy in the first season) or faster if they bleed out and die. I'm still sure he chopped the leg in hopes of preventing the spread of the bite, Like you said.

What I wanna know is why a bite is more severe than blood to blood contact, because I've seen them cut their own hands and touch the zombie blood with the same hand/wound.
