Cj guys picked on yj guys, then Cj and yj guys picked on tj guys, then Cj, yj, and tj guys pick on jk's. Once a new one comes out Cj, yj, and tj guys will pick on it
Well, here's the thing; it's not just the deal with Jeeps, but everything. You're going to have the douchebag fanboys everywhere you go. They're quite prominent in the F-Body world, and they're always the same people. They're the ones who bought L98s and trashed those with LB9s, then when they bought LT1s and trashed L98s, then they bought LS1s and trashed LT1s, and now they own 2010+ models and trash the LS1s. It's just the way it is.
Now, it can be argued that with every updated version that comes out, it's going to be better than its predecessor, and in theory, it should be rightfully so. Let's be honest, if updated models weren't ever improved or had some sort of improvement over previous models, they wouldn't sell.
For me, I'm an unbiased party. I've ridden in 3 Jeeps in my entire life. My cousin had one YEARS ago, and I mean, YEARS....probably about 17 years ago. I'd just recently driven a few JKs. I don't remember a thing about my cousin's Jeep, but as for the JKs, I wasn't impressed with their steering or ride...but I'd also just stepped out of a 2005 STi.
Given that I have the unbiased opinion, I can't comment on the older versions, but I would pass on them just for the simple fact that I need more room than what the 2 door model can offer. If I were relegated to a 2 door model, I'd be more prone to choose the JK over the previous model just because of the larger size alone. As for off-road prowess, I really can't comment on that, because as I mentioned, I've only been in 3 Jeeps in my entire life.
I like the idea of more power and I also like the idea of a swaybar disconnect, but that's also available on last year's model. The 3.8 is a tried and true engine, while the 3.6 is new. Even though I really want a 2012 model, I'm skeptical of its reliability, but the 3.6L has been in other vehicles prior to the Wrangler. I'm crossing my fingers on this one.
So, am I going to think my new Jeep is superior to any other? Considering it's the latest version, I probably would just on that reason alone, but will I think previous versions suck? Absolutely not. In all honesty, I've very rarely seen Jeeps on the side of the road, yet for some reason people talk about their poor reliability.
I think that's because MOST Jeepers are friendly and will help a fellow Jeeper in need.
Well, I guess I'll find out!
I have to say though that I like the maturity displayed on this forum. I'm sure douchebaggery exists but if it does, it's kept to a minimum...or I'm just doing one Hell of a job of avoiding it.
I have nothing but positive things to say about everyone I've interacted with on this forum.
Since I replied to the thread, I guess I have to mention something I hate.
I hate the "USE THE SEARCH" reply. It's a waste of bandwidth, because if a person has the time to click on a common topic and post, "USE THE SEARCH," he/she has the time to just answer the question(s) asked. I'm not targeting this forum, I'm just saying I hate it in general. Even if I'm not the person asking the question, I think it's just...lame.
