Title Question

Without getting too detailed (PO may be on the forum), I need to get a Jeep VIN title searched. A friend has one that they purchased, but keeps getting the run around from the seller in regards to obtaining the title.

I tried one of those online VIN searches, but it's easy to see they are worthless for the average person. I'm trying to find out if the PO actually has title to the Jeep. Or if there is a 3rd party lien holder. Before I help the current owner take legal recourse.

Are there services available that give the actual info, and not just the state titled in?

Thanks.

I think running a carfax would help.

Only tells you the state that it's registered in. Or in this case, 2 of the 3 states it had been registered in, but not the registered owner.

Thanks

Not good. I hope he at least has a bill of sale, but if there is a lein and he blew the sale money on coke or rent, the bank isn't going to want to release the title. You might contact the DMV (and chase down who it's titled to and if there is a lein), then possibly the bank, then back to the owner, then to the prosecutor's office who might give him a call.

Best of luck.

NO NO NO !!!
Say it ain't so.
He bought a Jeep from someone that DIDN'T have Title in Hand ?
Paid cash no doubt.
I hope the best for the both of you, you because your helping, and him
because it ain't right.
No matter how this turns out, I hope it's taught him a Valuable lesson.

The only thing they did right is use a cashier's check. So, they have some proof of purchase.

Try his insurance agent. The insurance company can probably find out. I bought a JEEP in FLORIDA and gave my agent a VIN# because I wanted to drive it back to OHIO and he told me who the owner and who the lien holder was. I made the bank check payable to both and drove it back.
