To da beach

Taking my Jeep out for the first time this weekend. Heading to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (Corolla). I'm so excited! Hope we have good weather!

I'm down in Hatteras and I'd probably be out on the beach by 10:00, but I'm not ready to pay the new $125 beach access fee. It's like putting a medium-rare steak in front of a hungry man with no wallet.

Do it! Just skip the lattes for a couple weeks.

Ugh...lattes? I hate coffee. I'll do it in June when I know I'll be down here for a few weeks over the summer. Doesn't make sense today when the weather for the rest of the week is supposed to be crappy. I hope it's better in Corolla!

$125 isn't for the season?

Oh, it's for the year, but not prorated so regardless of when you pay the fee it's only good until December 31st. I'm just not going to spend the money on it today for some driving time. I'll do it when we'll be throwing all the gear in it to stay for the day...for a few weeks. I can do other things with the money in this trip that will make the next three potentially rainy days more acceptable!

The pass I get at Assateague is good for one year from month of purchase.

It should be that way if there is going to be a fee. The locals are pretty nervous about what impact it may have on the tourism.

Feel comfortable airing down -- there is an air hose at that first c-store off the beach even though you can't really see it from the road.

Have fun!

My jeep has nitrogen in the tires. Is it o.k. to put air back in them?
