If someone truly needs a van, vans do the job without looking hideous. Checy astros looked good until the mid 90s though.

I always put the Astro in a different category... I guess it does fit the definition of a minivan, but it was rear wheel drive and on a frame. Way more of a truck than the Chrysler. Ford did that with the Aerostar too. Then abandoned the category.

I have a 2011 E-250 as a work van, but I'd consider the Nissan NV if buying today. Its ugly as hell, but Nissan has thought out the full size van better on their first try than Ford and Chevy have done with 50+ years of experience. Inside is huge and load area is flat, plus you can get a hightop right from the factory.

The astro was a very nice machine. The leafsprings were fiberglass though and the engine was too big and in too small of a compartment, cracked heads pretty bad.

It was literally a minivan though. It was a van, miniaturized.


Mine got 17mpg.
